Talents Among Us
Pahrump Valley High School is filled with talented students and teachers.

Talent is defined as a natural aptitude or skill. There are several talents possessed by those who choose to show it off, or they keep it on the down low. Often, teachers are looked at as just teachers, and seeing them do anything else is just, “abnormal.” But, does one ever think of the talent these students and teachers may possess?
Ms. Daleena Craig, a very knowledgeable English teacher, enthusiastically loves music. She sings and plays the piano like a goddess. She often performed piano in front of crowds when she was younger. Her favorite pieces to play are, Cat and the Mouse composed by Aaron Copeland and Moonlight Sonata composed by Beethoven.
Mrs. Kolodzieczyk, teaches English and drama. She is very good at acting and was in several plays as a child, one of them being The Sound of Music. She said, “I studied music in college as well as marching band at Western Michigan University.” As another side talent, she is very creative when it comes to quilting, often making quilts for Mr. and Mrs. Funk’s baby, Isabella.
Mr. Read, a high school science teacher at PVHS, has more in his past than just knowledge about science. Read set many records at his Oregon high school for track and field, going to state all 4 years. He was very talented, and he became fifth person alternate for the 1988 Olympic team.
These talents aren’t just possessed by teachers, but also fellow students. Many PVHS students are commonly known for their great athletic ability, from breaking school records, or being a big part of why their team is going to regionals. Junior, Dakota Gray, has a talent that not many have.
Gray is a very accurate rifleman. She is ranked 3rd in the nation for cowboy rifle shooting. A cowboy rifle is a rifle that is loaded by lever action instead of cocking. Gray is about 5 foot tall, which makes her talent even more unique because she demonstrates that her size doesn’t matter.
An individual who has a voice that must be heard is Adrian Grimaud, and he is a very talented singer. Grimaud is lead singer of an alternative rock band named Tower of Cards that is filled with opportunity. Performing locally and creating their first album, has put them (especially Grimaud) in the spotlight. To check out their first music video, you can visit Youtube and search, “Tower of Cards: Happily Ever After.” Check out Adrian Grimaud’s talent and the talent of the entire band while supporting your local musicans.
Talent isn’t based off how good you look, or how well you are at showing it off. Being able to share your talent with others is what makes you the star.

It’s amusing how our little town Pahrump has so much talent yet most of them “keep it on the down low.” The article was super positive and I wish we could see more like these. But in my freshman year, I got to witness Ms. Craig which was amazing.

This article is well written and very entertaining . It is awesome to see the variety of talent at our school; now I really want to hear Ms. Craig sing.

It’s amazing that such a small town can produce that much talent! It is also great that people with such high quality talent choose to come to Pahrump and share their skills with the community. Can’t wait for Tower Of Cards new album; they have a bright future ahead of them.

This is an amazing article! I never would have thought that these teachers were so skilled in so many areas! Especially Mrs. Kolodzieczyk, I did not know she knitted!
I like how this article lets students know that teachers are people who have hobbies, like every other person.
The only thing that you should have included is if the Tower of Cards performed live or not and if they did then say where they performed and how the turn out was.
Still, this is a great and unique article! Great job!

This is a very positive article; I loved how you used teachers at our school as an example. I feel this will make people open their eyes and realize that many people have talent. It would have been great to have some pictures or videos, but overall this was great!

I think this is a really great article that gives insight on some of the talent hidden within our school. Not a lot of students and teachers get the opportunity to display their talents, so it is good that they are being acknowledged.

There is a plethora of other talented teachers and students at PVHS that all deserve recognition, but I understand the limitations of an article. Not everybody can be noticed for their skills, especially when our school is brimming with amazing students. Nice article; it very well written and full of instances in which our school is blooming with expertise.

The only thing I will criticize will be the Tower of Card/House of Cards thing, but other than that I think it’s great that people recognize teachers and other students talents. Good job!

I love how this article gives teachers and students good exposure and recognition for great talents; as usual students are in the dark about their peers and teachers’ interests and hobbies, so this is pretty cool. I liked the creative similes used in this. “She sings and plays piano like a goddess.”
Really makes you recognize people around you more.

This was a great article. It’s well written, and provides an interesting subject to comment on. Who knew Ms. Craig played piano? It would have been nice to have a video of her playing piano or a picture. Maybe a picture of Mr. Read in high school or in the Olympics, too. Other than the lack of pictures, this was a pleasure to read, and I can’t wait for ToC’s next album.

It’s nice to learn different things about students and teachers. Also the bands name is Tower of Cards not House of Cards.
