You may be asking what is the COVID-19 vaccination, and what does it do? Well I am here to tell you.

The COVID-19 vaccine is an mRNA molecule used to help prevent Americans from getting sick. According to Lisa Lockerd Maragakis at Hopkins Medical she says “The U.S. vaccine safety system works to make sure that all vaccines are as safe as possible. Safety has been a top priority as federal agencies work with vaccine manufacturers to develop and authorize a COVID-19 vaccine.” The vaccine is made up of mRNA cells, which is a single-stranded molecule of RNA (ribonucleic acid) that corresponds to the genetic sequence of a gene which is synthesizing proteins. The vaccine attacks the virus by using macrophages that eat the dying or dead white cells and germs. They then release antibodies to attack the virus left behind, that is where the b-lymphocytes and t-lymphocytes come in to help defend the white blood cells against the virus to help keep the body healthy after the antibodies are injected into the body.

All though the vaccine is in phase three of their clinical trial, after getting the vaccine you may develop some side effects, such as: swelling around the injection site, redness, and tenderness but don’t worry it is completely normal to have these reactions. The COVID-19 vaccination lasts roughly about 4 months. The US government recommends  that you get a second shot 3 weeks apart for the best protection.  If you do choose to get the vaccination, it doesn’t guarantee you won’t get the virus but it can help reduce the chances of getting the virus.

There are many speculations on the pros and cons of getting the vaccine and it will generally be your own decision if it is good for you or not. Some health experts say that there are better things to come out of this vaccine than we expected. The vaccine is 85% more effective to prevent the disease from making its way in your body. According to Dr. Richard Vetter, for some people the vaccination had nothing but good outcomes and most people got it without a doubt and didn’t second guess their decisions.

To sum all this up the COVID-19 vaccination is nothing but a shot to help get rid of this virus and help people who are at high risks of COVID. All though getting the vaccine is your own preference it is recommended for you to get it, if you are 60+ and immune compromised to this virus for the safety of your loved ones and yourself.
