Pahrump Prom Closet
March 21, 2018
The average prom dress costs between $100-$400 for just the dress, and the average cost to rent a tux is $196. However, according to WeddingStats.org some designer tuxedos can cost between $400 and $500 to rent. These high prices don’t even include shoes, makeup, accessories and all the other essentials for the big night.
Since some people consider prom as one of the most important parts of the high school experience the cost may cause problems. Luckily, for students at Pahrump Valley High School this year, you can get everything you for free at the Prom Closet.
What exactly is Prom Closet? It’s an organization started by Project 150 where students can get everything necessary for Prom including free outfits, and accessories needed for the special night at Mountain Falls. Taylor Gent our schools Americorp and treasurer said, “We are hoping to help 100-200 students receive prom outfits.”
Prom Closet takes place here at PVHS on Saturday March 24th from 12 to 4pm. When you come, make sure you have a valid high school ID in order to get the items needed. If you find an item at the Prom Closet that you want but can’t take it home that day, the school will hold reserve it for you until you can pick it up.
Mrs. Shockley, the school’s registrar, has been collecting prom dresses for many years to help students in need. When Project 150 heard about this, they offered to bring the Prom Closet out to Pahrump once a year to help out PVHS students. Thank you, Mrs.Shockley and Project 150.
Throughout the whole year, the school accepts donations for Prom Closet, but many items are still needed. Dress donations are needed and appreciated, since there is nowhere in Pahrump to specifically buy prom dresses and they’re expensive. Other items needed for donation are: suits, ties, makeup, jewelry, and other prom accessories. You can donate Prom Closet items to Mrs. Shockley in the office.
Prom Closet is an amazing opportunity for students to get the items that might cost them hundreds of dollars-for free. If successful, Prom Closet continue so come down. Hope to see you Saturday and thank you to everyone who donated and to Project 150 and for bringing the Prom Closet to Pahrump.

I never loved such an amazing opportunity from a school before. I never enjoyed dances due to being so expensive and having to spend so much money on shoes, dress, makeup, earrings, necklaces, etc. When you only wore it for just a few hours and being stressed, because you either couldn’t afford it or you just cant find anything to feel good in. When I found out about this, I really was joyful and I found two beautiful dresses for FREE, and went to prom the last minute and I really loved the fact that Pahrump Valley High held this for us teenagers.

I think the prom closet was a great idea, and a good way for people who cant afford a new dress, or suit, to have another option.
