Why are the Raiders performing so bad? Is it bad management, misplaced funding, or is it an unknown illness that prevents the Raiders from making it to the playoffs? Whatever the reason, delving into what has caused the Raiders to go from fame to shame     should shed some light on this situation.

When it comes to it, the Raiders have been quite an embarrassment to the NFL. According to Drew Magary, the Raiders haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1983, haven’t gotten a division title since 2002, and haven’t won a playoff game since 2002. So what changed in 2002? Well, the Raiders lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl XXXVI. Since then, the Raiders have gone through 9 quarterbacks (as of 2015). And each has been incompetent to say the least.

Another problem the Raiders have run into: their players are prone to injuries, like Derek Carr’s injury that prevented him from playing the last game of this season. And since so many Raiders players are injured in play, the Raiders have to spend a ridiculous amount of money on backups, instead of spending their money on good defense, which is something they really need.

Which brings up another major issue; management. The Raiders have had their fair share of head coaches since 2002, with a few having taken their teams to the Super Bowl or playoffs. The team needs a solid head coach who actually knows what they’re doing. They need a coach who knows how to guide their rookies to perfect their skills, not encourage penalties or bad plays.

So will the Raiders ever be a real threat to other teams in the NFL? Who knows, but for now, Raider fans should just hold their heads high and try not to gather too much attention to yourselves.
