Many sports around the world are being cancelled due to the pandemic going on. Luckily, Pahrump Valley Highschool girls soccer is being able to still practice and play games in the year 2021. Many sports around the world are being cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Luckily, Pahrump Valley High School’s Girls Soccer is still able to practice and play games in the year 2021. Coach Carrington will let us get to know her and some of her soccer players will let us know how they have been handling the COVID restrictions and how it has affected them this year.

Coach Carrington, who began coaching Pahrump Valley High School’s Girls Soccer in 2015, states her expectations are “Dedication. They have to have heart. They have to be strong. They have to run crazy distances. Be on time, be dedicated, love soccer, and be coachable.” She has a very defensive minded type of play which is called 4-5-1. It consists of 4 in the defense, 5 in the middle of the defense and striker, and the 1 striker in front.

Ramos’, a junior in at PVHS, typical routine is, as she states, “ We start off by running, and then we do some passing drills, and either work on defense or shooting.” The type of training that has helped her surpass as a team player is to “have a good attitude towards everybody and other players on the field, always be prepared, proactive.” The pandemic has impacted Ramos by not having anybody cheering them on in the stands. She hopes to have a normal soccer season by her senior year next year.

Denton, who is a sophomore, is still looking at the bright side of things. She claims “ An enjoyable thing about playing soccer during this pandemic is that I still get to play with the girls and especially the seniors on my team.”

It’s Gents’ last year of high school and she is regretting taking things for granted. She now doesn’t have any State or Regional championship games to play in. She states, “ It’s just nice out and being active in sports again with my teammates” is something enjoyable she can say about playing soccer with the pandemic going on.

These athletes are working even harder this year following COVID protocols. They put on masks before getting on the field and right after getting off the field.

Although COVID has a negative impact of not letting anybody come to the games except parents, it has also had a positive impact of still being able to play 9 games this season. Something is better than nothing!
