Ovidio Guzman, son of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, was arrested by Mexico’s authorities on Thursday night following a firefight that broke out, leading to 35 military personnel being injured and 21 gunmen being arrested. Guzman was arrested back in 2019 sometime in October but was released on orders of Mexico’s president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Guzman is presumed to be a high-ranking officer in the Sinaloa Cartel and due to this, the Sinaloa Cartel has begun to wage war on Culiacan. Guzman was arrested due to engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, drug trafficking, and firearms charges. Guzman was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years and ordered to pay$12.6 billion in forfeiture. Due to the cartel’s actions, aircraft in and out of Culiacan have been shot up to prevent Guzman’s extradition via plane. The Sinaloa Cartel has made demands to their government asking for the release of Guzman or else they’ll begin attacking government buildings. Mexico’s government is still refusing the Sinaloa Cartel demands and we’re still receiving updates.
