President’s Day
Hellooo! And welcome to another day in the corner of conversation street. Today will be about President’s Day. How and when did we decide that our presidents should have their own day?
As the Face of America, I Must Make Grave Decisions For The People
“However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results”
-Winston Churchill
*over the radio* “Your President, John Henry Eden here, and as your president, I know the US has fallen on hard times, yes, but it can be healed. You have that power to heal within you .” *Mr. Brown walks in and turns off the radio* Ah, I see you are listening to our “President”. I would never believe him but that’s my opinion. Anyways President’s Day, A day just for our past and current presidents and how they affected the country. Mostly you see President’s Day as one big sales day for furniture or cars, but let us look at it for its real reason the presidents have their own day. It was in 1862 when Abe Lincoln declared on February 22nd we honor George Washington and his actions. It was passed in 1879 by President Rutherford B. Hayes giving us George Washington day but only for DC. It wouldn’t be until 1885 that the whole country would celebrate it. George Washington Day would be the first federal holiday that was dedicated to an American. The next person would be MLK. We wouldn’t see President’s Day until 1971 with the Uniform Monday Holiday Act because of Richard M. Nixon who tried making more 3-day weekends for the nation’s workers. The Act also changed the dates for Columbus Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day.
Some People Question How I Became President but That Doesn’t Matter Now.
“Economics is a subject that does not greatly respect one’s wishes.”
-Nikita Khrushchev
But what do we do on President’s Day how do we celebrate this day? Do we shoot off fireworks, sit around all day, make a feast, go shooting, or maybe sing a song? Well, do whatever. What presidents do you like and what did they do? Not everyone likes the same president but that’s the great part about it. It’s changeable didn’t like Nixon but love Reagan well celebrate him instead. There is no real way to celebrate it. *Radio turns back on* “If you allow yourself to act. What I ask of you needs explanation, But for now my America, we must part. Restoring the greatest country in the world to its former glory, well, that takes time.” Man, I knew I shouldn’t have bought this radio from that weird guy. *Grandfather clock goes off* Well that’s it for today. I hope President’s Day is great for everyone. I have to destroy this radio by throwing it into a volcano. Supposing I don’t see you again; Have a good morning, afternoon, and good night. *Mr. Brown disappears into thin air.*
