Jennifer Pan, 24, lived with her two parents and younger brother in Markham, Ontario. They were a typical family: two parents and two kids. was a good kid; she was a straight A student in school and graduated from Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School in Markham, Ontario. Jennifer earned a scholarship of $3,000 and ended up going to college at Ryerson University in Ontario Canada. Only it was all fake. None of the report cards she had were real. She never even graduated college, let alone high school. All her report cards, transcripts, and her diplomas were forged. She had earned the offer for the scholarship in her 11th grade year.              Unbeknownst to her parents, Jennifer had a secret boyfriend in her 11th grade year. His name was Daniel Wong. She was on track to go to a good college but her grades began to slip after Wong was forced to transfer school because there was marijuana found in his car. In her senior year she failed Calculus and the college revoked their scholarship. In fall of 2004, she began faking report cards and transcripts, convincing her parents she would be starting at Ryerson University that school year. Her father, Huei Hann Pan, was so proud, he went and bought her a laptop for school.

In 2008, her “graduation” was looming overhead and she had to find a lie to keep her parents thinking she actually went to the college and graduated from it. She told her parents that she was only allowed one ticket per student and didn’t want to exclude one of her parents, so she gave it to a friend. But, as I’m sure you know, this was a lie and she wasn’t graduating.

After her “Faux Graduation” she told her parents that she was volunteering at a children’s hospital in Toronto. However her parents grew suspicious because she didn’t have any ID or uniform and followed her to work one day. They found that she actually didn’t volunteer at the children’s hospital. Her parents now questioned her whole story about school and found out it was all fake. Her parents took her laptop and forbade her from dating Wong.

After two years she regained her parents’ trust and got phone privileges back. She then reconnected with Wong, and he introduced her to a friend of his named Lenford Crawford.

Jennifer had offered to pay Lenford $10,000 if he could help her kill her parents. They used Halloween 2010 to scope out the neighborhood and make a plan. On November 8, Lenford texted Pan, “After work ok will be game time”.

Huei had gone to bed leaving Jennifer and her mother together at 10:02p.m.,  Jennifer told her mother goodnight and headed to her room, unlocking the front door on her way. Three minutes later Crawford and two others, David Mylvaganam and Eric Carty entered the Pan home. Carty tied Jennifer’s hands behind her back to the upstairs banister while the other two took her parents to the basement and covered their heads with blankets, Bich (beak) Ha Pan her mother, was shot three times in the head and Hueiwas shot once in the face and once in the shoulder.

The gunmen fled and Jennifer called 911. This was when her father appeared again from the basement, miraculously surviving his injuries. Officers believed Jennifer during the first interrogation but suspicions began to rise and asked her how she could reach her phone while her hands were bound behind her back. On November 10, the investigators had her simulate how she managed to call the police with her hands behind her back. On November 12, Jennifer’s father woke from his coma and stated he saw Jennifer whisper to one of the gunmen “like a friend”. When Officer William Goetz questioned Jennifer again Nov. 22, 2010, that’s when the jig was up. Goetz told Jennifer that he knew everything and she crumbled.

Jennifer and Wong were arrested that night. The hitmen followed in spring 2011. On December 13, 2014, all aggressors involved in the attack as well as Jennifer were charged with first degree murder and attempted murder, and received life sentences without parole and additional life sentences will be served consecutively.

Carty was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder in 2015 and received an 18-year sentence. If you enjoyed this article I recommend watching Snapped: Killer Couples did an episode on Jennifer Pan & Daniel Wong. It can be found on the streaming service Peacock.
