In the games that they play, you are able to make an awesome character with special powers, abilities, and characteristics. You go on adventures, quests, and missions with these characters and other members of the club and use dice to decide what happens in the story. Throughout the story you fight strong bosses that can be hard and fun to defeat.
I interviewed both the advisor, Robin Williams, and one of the members, Lydia Olivas. I asked both my interviewees how the RPG Club was any different from another activity and Mr.Williams responded with “Most clubs aren’t as fun as this because you get to play board games and you get to use your imagination.” While Lydia only said, “They play RPG games”. One of the questions I asked Mr. Williams was why he enjoyed the club and he claimed, “it was very diverse.” When I asked Mr. Williams if he disliked the club he told me that he doesn’t really dislike anything about it but setting it up can be rough sometimes.
It seems the people of the RPG Club enjoy their club and value it. I asked the advisor of the club why he started teaching the club and he said that when he was younger he struggled with severe social anxiety and the RPG Club could help people in similar situations. I also asked Mr. Williams if he believed we needed this club for the school and he replied with, “No not exactly but it could be very beneficial for a students mental and social health.” The people of the RPG Club believe it was a great idea to bring this to the school.
The RPG Club can be a way to collaborate or have fun with your friends. You can also meet new people who are interested in the same thing as you. People in the RPG Club are allowed to express their imagination when they play these games with other people who also can use their imagination.
