Artificial intelligence (AI) is a highly advanced technology that has been around since the 1950s, moreover, it has caused various issues. The growth of AI has led to many individuals being removed from their jobs as robots take over many human roles. This significant change has the potential to have many detrimental effects on society, yet AI also enhances society by providing valuable assistance to many people worldwide.
The concept of AI originated in Rouge City located in Marseille, France. It was created by John McCarthy who was one of the founders of AI as well. McCarthy was a computer scientist and also had the role of a cognitive scientist. He created AI because it was supposed to help many people advance their writing skills and gain a basic understanding of what is known to mankind. This was established on Dartmouth, a college campus.
Yet many people took advantage of the idea of AI and it started to get out of hand, especially in many schools. This became a problem because a significant number of students were employing AI to cheat on exams in a manner that made it look like they did all the work themselves when they used a machine. In addition, AI is becoming so advanced that it’s replacing everything that we use daily.
The cause of this can diminish our knowledge by replacing much of what we need to know with only a small fraction. This can be very harmful to others as well as AI is rapidly taking over many jobs including current events, teaching in school, journalism, working in offices, and so on. This problem is leaving many people in our society with no jobs, so then money becomes useless. Brooklyn Dunn, a student at Pahrump Valley High School stated, “AI is becoming harmful because many people as a society are cheating on tests, creating fake art and imagery, and mass production of that AI is making people think that they did it themselves”.
However, AI isn’t all that bad because it can be used for many useful things if it’s not taken advantage of. AI can be used to help rephrase a sentence or come up with a better idea for work that you’re stuck on. beyond writing, AI has many versatile uses across various subjects including mathematics, biology, history, physical education, and many other subjects. Brooklyn also stated, “It can be helpful because it can help expand people’s creative minds on what they want to make”.
When using AI, you can write whatever you are working on and you will receive suggestions to enhance it’s quality. Whether it’s correcting errors, strengthening the sentence structure, or improving; AI provides valuable assistance in refining your work. The future of AI remains uncertain. It’s unclear whether it will progress or regress. Despite this, AI constantly adapts and evolves, changing with each passing day. It may be positive and negative, but it still can cause and fix many problems.
