Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell, also known as Billie Eilish, was born December 18, 2001 in Los Angeles, California. Billie Eilish was born into a semi-famous family with her parents, Maggie Baird and Patrick O’Connell, being both musicians and actors. Her parents were involved in her career, as they would often work with Eilish on her tours. Eilish was home schooled most of her life, alongside her older brother.
During those developmental years, the siblings discovered their love for songwriting and music. Before Eilish’s music career began, she did dance, but had to stop due to an injury at thirteen. Eilish was able to graduate high school at the age of fifteen and didn’t plan to go to college as her music career had already taken off by that time.
Eilish started her career at the young age of fourteen when she did a cover of the song, ocean eyes written by her brother in 2015, Finneas Baird O’Connell, also known as FINNEAS. This was the song that blew up Eilish’s music career. Eilish was known to do things a bit differently than other music artists her age, with her trademark neon green hair and her unique way of doing music videos, she was growing in popularity. Eilish soon started to record and post singing videos on YouTube. Eilish and her brother worked on her second single together “Six Feet Under” in 2016 and her mom directed and edited the music video. Thanks to her song “Ocean Eyes”, she was signed to Darkroom and Interscope Records. Eilish would release many more songs and music videos and went on her first tour in October of 2017 and another in February 2018. In March 2018 she would release her first album “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO” and “Bad Guy” which would become her most popular song and a worldwide hit.
Eilish struggled with depression and suicidal idealization when she was only sixteen years old, but this wasn’t the only time Eilish had struggled with her mental health. Eilish says that she started feeling this way at thirteen years old when she started to suffer from anxiety, depression and have self-harm tendencies. She believes her depression started after she had to quit dancing due to the injury she had. She started to struggle with many issues and her mental health would take a deeper dive as she began to self-harm, saying that she felt she deserved to be in pain. As her fame really set in, Eilish started to experience panic attacks and night terrors. Thankfully Eilish was able to get therapy and was able to get help for those struggles. Even though she is still dealing with some issues, she is doing much better.
Eilish confirmed the suspicion that she was queer in November 2023, saying “I didn’t realize people didn’t know I’m attracted to women.” Eilish also revealed that she would open up more about her sexuality when her next album “Hit Me Hard and Soft” that would be released on May 17. Eilish has not labeled what her sexuality is exactly, but stated she likes both men and women. Eilish added “Why can’t we just exist? I’ve been doing this for a long time and I just didn’t talk about it.” In a chat with Rolling Stone, Eilish was asked about a song on her newest album called “Lunch” where she talked about doing some colorful activities with women. She said she didn’t “really believe in” the idea of coming out. When she saw an article about her sexuality she said “Oh I guess I came out today!”
Eilish has done so much the past eight years of her career and has been through so much. With the list of awards she has won it should be a clear sign of how amazing of a music artist she is. All the awards she has won consist of nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, twenty Guinness World Records, seven MTV Video Music Awards, three BRIT Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards, and even more.
Billie Eilish has released so many amazing songs and albums, which is why you should go listen to her most recent album that is breaking records “Hit Me Hard and Soft” that was released earlier this year.
