Many guys at Pahrump Valley High School find volleyball enjoyable, so they made their own volleyball club for the men. The club’s practice is from 6:00-7:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays in the gym area.
The group of boys on the team say wanted to join because they “find the sport enjoyable” along with saying they “have a strong passion” for the sport as well.
There are two of the boys that are on the team now that have been playing the sport since middle school but since COVID and then issues with another’s middle school they stopped until there had been the volleyball club at PVHS. One of the players, Lucas Chan-Buchanan, says, he had joined “because they needed members and he claimed that the sport was a fun thing to play once you got used to the sport the more you practiced.”
Another player, Elijah Thompson, had stated that “they are currently attempting to play against another boys volleyball club in Vegas and that he’s really hoping they are able to play against the team”. The club is trying their hardest to get as far as they can with this sport. Aside from a Vegas game, Elijah also commented that they “currently have a confirmed game with the girls volleyball team at PVHS as well but beside that anything else about them playing with anyone else is currently unconfirmed”.
Will Coen, another player for the boys club claimed that he believed if they worked hard enough and practiced more they would be able to be an actual team for the school instead of just a simple club. Coen even went as far as saying, “you should drop other sports and join because volleyball is the better sport”, which many people could agree on and many wouldn’t agree on that statement.
The captain, Legend Reigns, was one of the boys that played volleyball in middle school while living in Vegas, claiming that the boys that started the club wanted to play volleyball but obviously couldn’t join the girls team. Since they couldn’t join the girls, they made this club and many of the boys believe the club was made just because of the love these boys had for the sport. They couldn’t play like the girls, but not just the love for the simple sport. Legend also claimed that some of the guys were inspired to start the club by the anime “Haikyuu” since the anime is also about boys volleyball and shows the challenges that the PVHS volleyball club might go through as well.
The whole team believes that if they end up getting the right number of people for a few years they’ll be able to be an actual sport for the high school. The players at the moment all say that people should join along with the club, because it’s free and you’d just have to wear the right clothing as well as bringing your own water because you’ll need it.
