Maury Cook is the new dean at Pahrump Valley High School and he has been working with other schools for the past 35 years. He came from Montana, where he was a teacher and a student counselor at his previous school(s). Mr. Cook seems very excited to be here now and is aware of how important his job is. For those who don’t know, a dean basically handles the discipline of the students.
Overall, I think we’re in good hands. Mr. Cook even says, “I’m doing this because I believe that it is important for these kids to have discipline”. Based on this quote, I think Mr. Cook is going to be perfect as the new dean because he obviously understands how important his job is and it’s obvious that he won’t misuse the power he now has. If this is not enough to sell you then don’t worry, I have more reasons as to why I think Mr. Cook is going to be a good dean here at PVHS.
Mr. Cook plans on staying here at PVHS for a long time because he said, “I’m not planning on retiring any time soon and I would like to continue working here as long as I can”. This means that we can rely on him and he wouldn’t be unruly as he genuinely likes this school. It’s also good that Mr. Cook is going to be here for a while because I think when it comes to a person that works in the school system its not good for them to constantly be moving from school to school because while they’re at one school, they build a connection with the students there and if your constantly moving from school to school it will reset these relationships with the students. Since he is the new dean, he also can’t be missing too many days of school as you can’t just hire a substitute dean. So obviously if he is not here then who is going to do his job? After all, his job is crucial.
In the long run, I think Mr. Cook will do great as the new dean of PVHS. Just by his wise words, we already know we can count on him to be here for a while and we know he is going to be a reliable person at this school. Not to mention that we know that he knows how important his job is and we also already know that he is going to take his job very seriously. He also has experience in the school district life as he said, “I really did like teaching and being a counselor”.
So why did I even write this article you may ask? Well, that is because I think it is extremely important to show respect or at the very least go out of your way and say, “hi” to the people who help your school run because without them your education would be a lot different.
