The Interact Club is an underrepresented club at Pahrump Valley High School. This club is an international club that was founded in 1962 and is well established here at PVHS. It is based on doing good deeds and giving back to the community. Additionally, there is a focus on building skills while making meaningful friendships on the way. There are roughly around twenty members in the club. Each member of this club plays an important part in it as they all have to be extremely committed to the club by doing 30 hours of community service each school year in order to be seen as an active member of the club.
Don’t let the community service requirements stop you from joining the club as this club can offer so many opportunities and skills that you can use not only now, but later in the future. Some of these skills include working with money, cooking, and becoming a leader. This club is active outside of school, mainly depending if they are helping out at the football games or doing community service. It’s also held in school due to their meetings, which are held during lunch. Many of the members love being involved with the club, one of the members, Sarah even stated, “Sometimes when we are doing community service, we forget we are even doing it due to how much fun we are having.” Alexis even shared her advice about the club, when she was asked if joining was worth it, “You should go for it! Friendships are made and you get free sweaters! What more could you ask for?” These statements just show how joining the club can be fun and made into many treasured memories for years to come that you can always look back on.
Not only are the members of the club really easy to get along with and very welcoming, but also the advisor, Mrs. Joann Cunningham. She’s been the advisor for the club for nearly ten years, as she previously heard about it when she first started teaching and saw that there was an opening for an advisor in the Interact Club and decided to go ahead and do it as it piqued her interest. To this day, she still loves being the advisor and has no regrets, as she genuinely loves getting to power the minds of young individuals and helping them develop their skills such as organization, running meetings, and turning them into communicating leaders for the future. She even gave some advice to those who are considering joining the club by stating, “People should want to join as they can give back to others and the community, overall it’s just a really good feeling. So, just go for it! It looks good on your future resume too”. This shows that your time of being in this club truly is a worthwhile experience and something you should definitely try doing just for the fun of it.
In conclusion, this club has so many benefits to you and your community, don’t be afraid to join the Interact Club!
