During the 2024-25 Girls JV Soccer season, the Pahrump Valley High School Junior Varsity girls soccer team practiced their skills and improved game by game. The season started with multiple wins against teams like Boulder, Mojave, Mater East, ect.
For the season to be a success, the girls had to work together on the field to be able to win the games. Freshman Cindal Monahan says, “My position is middle defense. Middle defense controls the line of defense, which means it is my job and the rest of the defense has to work together to stop the ball from getting closer to the goal”. Defense is the last line before the ball reaches the goal. Without the middles and forwards being there to retrieve the ball from the defense, there would be no one there to be able to retrieve the ball and continue to score. Without all of them working together, the season can be tough for there is no communication. Luckily, the girls did not struggle with that and worked very well together. Monahan said, “Overall the season was fun and we won many of our games”. Even though they had their ups and downs, the team still powered through and did not let it stop them from having an amazing season. Even with their challenges and losses, they did not let that stop them from having a season filled with joy, laughter, and fun.
One reason the season was so enjoyable was because members of the team were able to play soccer with their friends, which made many memories and brought the team closer together throughout the season. Freshman Melanie Carson said, “I love that I can meet new people and just play soccer with them”. Playing with your peers can create lasting friendships, even when the season is over. Being friends or friendly with people on the team is also important because it makes it easier to work together.
When playing for PVHS, the practices can be tough with many drills and games. Even though it can be difficult, there are some enjoyable ones, including the shooting drills. While there are many perks to the season, there are also many challenges. Keeping your grades up is one of the hardest things about the season, but in the end, you will be thankful you did because of the time you spent with your teammates and the many memories you made along the way.
The girls spent countless hours on the bus going to and coming back from games. While the long rides can be boring, the girls made the best of it in spite of their losses. Monahan and Carson both say that they would sing songs going home from games, which was a core memory for many of the girls.
Girls JV Soccer ended the season on a good note with a 6-0 win against Mater East and by being ranked number 41 out of 72 in the state. They started off with a strong season and carried that throughout with only 5 losses. They had an astonishing season overall and hope to do the same next year. Next fall season, make sure to go out and support your JV Girls Soccer team!
