Some people think that there is a right or wrong way to start a band but in reality, there isn’t.
The first thing you should do is find people to make a band with. If you don’t have friends you can always put up flyers and get the word out there that band mates are needed. Don’t be afraid to socialize with others, because they’re probably too nervous to approach you.
Now you should have band mates if they don’t have an instrument or aren’t skilled, you should practice. Keep practicing until you and the others feel skilled. Never rush things because most of the time it doesn’t end up how you want it.
It’s never too early to create a band agreement, the things you would need to put in the agreement are: the band assets, what happens if someone leaves, who makes the decisions, band partnership, income, cancellation policy, and the signatures of every band member. You could add other things to the agreement; those were just examples of some you could use. Have a band meeting to determine the type of band sound you guys would like to do, and a band name that all of you like. You don’t want to book a gig if you don’t have a band name. If you have no idea about names, or your band mates don’t agree on names, there are multiple band name generators online to use. Don’t forget to have a band group chat or a way to contact each other.
After all of that, it’s time to start writing. It doesn’t matter who writes the songs, it only matters if you guys disagree with some of the lyrics. You guys just have to be on the same page. After the songs are created, rehearse every time anybody has free time. You wouldn’t want to rush things when you guys aren’t ready. The next thing you should do is to find gigs. It’s okay if you get nervous; it would be weird not to be nervous. You just have to believe that you and your band will do great.
If the band would like to be famous, you and your band mates have to create an EPK, short for an Electronic Press Kit. You would need to create an EPK because it’s an essential tool in the music industry for any band, musician, or songwriter looking to promote their music and get booked for shows. A press kit includes all the promotional information you’ll need to send to booking agents, talent buyers, promoters, and bloggers.
The generation that we’re in is mostly active on social media, so the band would need to agree on how they would like the band to be seen. Would the band like to be seen as a rock band, a classic band, or an authentic band, etc? Furthermore, the band could get some of their music out by posting on social media.
That’s the end of this long tutorial. You could be a boy band, a girl band, or a band with mixed genders. As long as the band works together and agrees on things the band will be successful.
