The banning
Abortion is the act of terminating an embryo during human pregnancy. An embryo is a parasitic organism, meaning it depends on the host for nutrients and survival. As of January 8th, 2025, twelve U.S. states have abortion banned. These states are: Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia, though many more states have already banned abortion after so many weeks of pregnancy. Consequences of providing an abortion outside of strict exceptions can be anything from loss of medical license to fines, and jail time.
The choice is yours
Pro-choice vs. Pro-life. These are the two scarce and extremely controversial sides of people’s opinions on abortion. Pro-choice is the side that believes women should have the choice to choose whether or not they want to keep the baby. Pro-life is the side that thinks abortion is morally wrong because it’s considered murder and the woman should be held accountable for it. But what about the women? She has a life to live. Some women don’t want children and “accidents” happen.
Abortion can be necessary
Abortion should be a choice free of consequences as it can benefit in some cases. Some complications occur during pregnancy and childbirth, so an abortion is necessary to ensure the survival of the would-be mother. Yes, there are other options than having an abortion just because you don’t want a baby. In those cases, the majority of people would say that is the consequence of having unprotected intercourse. However, on occasion, birth control fails or a condom may break. Even though birth control is up to 93% effective, it can fail causing the trials of an unwanted pregnancy.
It’s not their fault
Another viable effect to take on that happens is sexual assault. If a woman had been sexually assaulted and became pregnant she shouldn’t have to live with the result of that. An unwanted pregnancy that was forced onto her due to someone else’s actions. In the scarce case, a minor is in that situation. They should not have to live with a “rape baby”, ruining their life and affecting their health.
People will find a way
Banning abortion won’t stop people from getting what they want. Restricting something just makes someone want it more, and if they want it they will achieve it no matter how unsafe it is. People can try to drug themselves up to kill the baby, causing an addiction for them or an accidental overdose. That’s two deaths when only one could’ve been necessary.
