There was an attack made against Israel on October 7th 2023, with Palestine stating that it was a response to the ground attack and cross-border conflicts that Israel made against them. Palestine did more than just that to try and get revenge, though. They launched rockets into Israel and stormed the closest cities from the Gaza border. The Center for Preventative Action states that the towns and cities that were bombed killed 1,100, injuring 3,300 and taking even more hostage. In addition to why there is a lot of conflict between these two nations, they have had a lot of other wars and conflicts before this. According to the Center for Preventative Action, Israel and Palestine have had 16 wars and conflicts against each other. All of these date back to the 1900’s, by the end of WWII, or in other words, when Israel was founded as an independent country is when these wars or conflicts started happening. Doing the math, that can average to about one war every five years. There were wars here and there
There were a lot of wars that happened and there were many reasons why they started but we can say that there is one common reason why all these wars started in the first place, for the holy land that they want to have. Some say that this is not a reasonable reason to start a whole war over some land because holy land cannot be bought or sold. Others will say that this is a completely valid reason to go to war over because that land is a part of their religion. There are a variety of reasons why they went to war and even more reasons to support both sides of starting a war for land that both Israel and Palestine both care about.
All of the past wars and the current war now has an everlasting effect on the people who live both in Israel and Palestine. A lot of people were killed, injured, or captured by either side and both sides didn’t show any mercy to the civilians in either country as well. On top of all of that, the war has affected the living conditions of civilians by needing to evacuate when a military encounter does happen. Then food is scarce because food is needed to fuel the military to have a fighting chance.
These wars have had a great impact on more than just Israel and Palestine, they have had an impact on the world as a whole, too. The United States wanted to support Israel more than Palestine and so they cut funding from the UN. Jordan, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates supported Israel as well. Morocco and Sudan wanted to support Palestine but the Palestinian leader rejected their deals.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has ended with many casualties but most of them only being Palestinians. There were more than 45,000 Palestinians killed while there were only less than 2,000 Israelis killed in the same time period. The conflict ended with a trade of prisoners that were captured by both sides and an agreed ceasefire. Although a ceasefire was called between Israel and Palestine, it is not known if the conflict between both nations has ended. When we look at everything that happened in this conflict we can say that we don’t know if the ceasefire is actual peace or if it is a temporary way to stop the fighting. Until we know for sure, stay safe and try not to promote violence.
