The girls basketball ball season has officially come to an end. From the start of the season to the end of the season, the ladies on not only varsity, but on JV and B-Team as well, gave it their all on the court. Whether it was a practice or a game, they worked harder each time to get better day by day.
The varsity team started off strong, for each time they got a loss they would come back with a win. While they lost games against competitors like Boulder, Meadows, and Moapa they always, no matter what, kept the score close, never letting the other team get too far ahead. The Trojans made sure to never let losses like these get them down, instead they worked harder and went to great lengths to win their next games. Even with losses, they powered through and still made it to the playoffs where they faced Virgin Valley. Even with an unfortunate loss in this first round, the trojans varsity team never let their losses define them and showed that they were still an excellent team.
The JV team and the B-Team also played many great games throughout their season. On the JV and B-Team they had many awesome players that made this season a great one. The players always worked well together, never letting anything stop them from playing a great game. They took their losses and learned from them through practice. Freshman Cindal Monahan, a floater for B-Team, JV, and Varsity said, “ The hardest part of the season was the long practices, but they made us better.” While the team had their challenges, the long practices gave them the knowledge they needed to know and the time to get better day by day. The JV and the B-Team faced many tough competitors. Freshman Emily Zaragoza, a floater for all 3 teams, said, “The toughest team we played was Del Sol.” Even though that was one of their toughest competitors, they didn’t let that loss get them down. While they played tough teams they also made fun memories along the way, which is what made this season a memorable one.
While the players play a big role during the season, nothing could be possible without their coaches. Coach Hopkins has been coaching at Pahrump Valley High School since the 1990’s, and while he has been taking breaks throughout the years, he ultimately comes back. While Hopkins is the head coach for varsity he still plays a major role coaching and giving pointers to the JV and B-Team as well. Coaches for the B-Team are Head Coach Erik Odegard and Assistant Coach Jessica Saldana. Saldana also helps out with the JV team along with Brittany Wagner and Darla Sheppard. Without these coaches, the season would not have been possible as they guided the players along the way and taught them many valuable skills.
Even with the season ending, the girls are excited for the next season to begin, hoping to use what they learned this season and to improve in the next season. While there are no more games this season, be sure to go support your Lady Trojans next season.
