On February 12th, 2025 the Celtics played against the San Antonio Spurs in the first final of the Regular Season Series. This game took place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The score ended up as 116-103, with Celtics taking the lead by 13 points and the game being led by Jayson Tatum. It can be said that Jayson Tatum was the game’s MVP as he gave the Celtics 32 points and 14 rebounds throughout the entire game.
Besides Tatum taking the lead, players like Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White, were also one of the various assets to winning the game. Porzingis had 29 points and White had 19 points for the Celtics.
With this being the final game before the All-Stars break, it’s important to finish strong with a win. As the game commenced, the Celtics started out strong and had shown competitiveness as they were first to the ball and kept possession. 5 seconds after 9 minutes, the score was 4-6, with the Spurs in the lead with 2 points, when all of a sudden, Jaysum Tatum and Al Horford had made a ‘run-in-last’ play, adding 8 points to their scoreboard. This was double the amount of points the San Antonio Spurs had. The first quarter ends and the score is 19-37; having the Celtics taking the lead by an 18-point difference.
Throughout the game, the Celtics were motivated and determined to beat the Spurs. However, the Spurs came back with the same determination. In the second quarter, with 11 seconds on the clock, Jaysum Tatum attempts a 3-pointer and misses by a quarter of an inch. The opposing team quickly takes hold of the ball and consequently, with now only 3 seconds remaining, the Spurs get a final 3-pointer in and the second half ends. Unfortunately, this in fact did not put the Spurs ahead, the Celtics still have the lead with the score 47-66; a 19 point difference.
Now the new half had started, and plays made in the third quarter were astonishing as Porzingis and Tatum worked together in order to make back-to-back dunks in less than 30 seconds. But, this does not mean the Antonio Spurs don’t have a chance to catch up to the Celtics, as the quarter ends with a gain of 27 points to the Celtics and 34 to the Spurs. The Spurs win the quarter and the score is now 93-81, however the Celtics remain ahead. This time, only by 12 points.
At the end of the game, both teams had been going back-and-forth on the scoreboard. The chemistry and teamwork between players on both sides of the teams had been great.
