Did you know that the roots of football are from two sports: soccer and rugby? When I had to learn the basics of flag football, it was so difficult to understand because I’ve never really paid football any mind. But football is easy to understand if you’re not thinking too deeply about it. The important points to know are that in a basic game of football; there are 11 players on each team, four quarters in the whole game, one team plays defense, and the other plays offense. The offense is trying to score a goal, or point, while the defense is trying to stop that from happening. The offense could win by kicking, throwing, or even running with it. Whoever’s team that plays defense can tackle, or jump on the opposing team to stop them. The offense must try to advance the ball up ten yards in four plays, if they don’t, the ball has to go to the defense.
A normal football game starts by having 11 players on the right side of the field and having 11 more players on the left side. The referee does a coin flip to decide who gets the ball first after the coin flip, whoever gets the ball first is the offense and they’re objective is to score a goal against the other team without getting stopped. If they haven’t moved at least 10 yards in four plays, the ball is no longer in their hands. The other team now has the ball and the same rules apply to them. Throughout the entire game, the two teams playing against each other can take the ball and get a point for they’re team or stop a play from happening. A football game can normally take three and a half hours. If you still don’t understand, read again and watch a football game. You’ll understand it in no time.
