University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) has many opportunities to become anything in medicine. UCSF is one of the best medical schools you can attend, being that it remains the only school that is ranked in the top five for training in both research and primary care (US News Ranks Medical and Nursing Schools in Top 10). With UCSF being ranked top 5, it is also ranked 16th as the best global university to attend.
What probably makes UCSF ranked so high and favored by everyone in the United States is how great UCSF’s education is when it comes to medicine and health sciences. UCSF’s main goal when teaching is to “strive to advance human health through a fourfold mission of education, research, patient care, and public service.” UCSF is a highly prestigious school to attend, which means they have to set big goals for themselves to accomplish.
This goal that they have set for themselves is really impressive and even having that goal set is a lot to handle. UCSF’s main goal as a school is to “Advancing health worldwide through preeminent biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.” Even though their main focus is to advance the medicine industry, they do teach more than just medicine.
What UCSF teaches isn’t only medicine, but also other fields like basic science, physical therapy, and social and population sciences. This is just a general list of what UCSF has to offer students at their school, but UCSF is mostly a medical school, even though they have many other classes to choose from. With all of these options, of course, come strict requirements to even have a chance of applying at UCSF.
Students need to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or the equivalent from an accredited institution is required. (Some programs or pathways may require a master’s degree.) What UCSF also stated was…you need to have at least a 3.0 grade point average. This is already a lot for the student to achieve in general when trying to apply to this medical school. Even more so, needing a bachelor’s degree and even a master’s degree, depending on what you are trying to apply for. Obviously, there are many other requirements based on what you choose to learn at UCSF, so keep that in mind when trying to apply. Since there are great need to attend UCSF, there are great benefits to attending this medical school as well.
These benefits are more than most schools give to their students as well. According to their website, UCSF offers most of the basics like scholarships, loans, grants, and housing and food. What they do that most schools don’t, however, is that they will give out veteran benefits to students who have served in any branch of the military. Many schools, even many stores and services, don’t offer veteran benefits at all, so it’s great that UCSF supports veterans.
UCSF is a great University to attend if you want to become anything that has to do with medicine, physical therapy, and even basic sciences if desired. What you should do is at least see what UCSF has to offer; maybe it’s a school that you are willing to attend and might even enjoy.
