One night in Houston, Texas, on Nov. 5, 2021, chaos broke out on the night of the infamous Astroworld concert, when many lives were taken. What fans thought was going to be like any other concert turned out to be one of the worst nights of their lives.
While the fans were waiting, they broke down the fences and barricades, rushing right into the concert. As this was happening, they were already getting rowdy and violent. This had already led to some early injuries within the park. Although some injuries had already occurred, people ignored them, and many went on to enjoy themselves.
From that point on, most things were going pretty normally. People were having fun, eating, and they were getting ‘lit’. Halfway through, most of the people were wasted, and that was going to become a problem soon.
Then came the first set of artists’ performances. The concert, for the first artists, was all completely normal, then came the main event. Travis Scott was known for his crazy concerts. By the time the main event was starting, people were gasping for air. “The crowd became tighter and tighter, and at that point it was hard to breathe,” said a survivor in an interview for CNN news. Many fans also rushed and broke through the gates.
Halfway through the main event, many were injured and some had their lives taken, but apparently Scott did not notice; survivors said otherwise. “Yo, let’s f–king rage, and not caring about how dangerous it actually is. … He definitely saw people crying for help and didn’t do anything,” stated a survivor in an interview for The Huntington News. The venue tried telling Scott to end, but he declined. He had other plans and brought out one of the biggest artists in the world: Drake.
This caused even more problems. More injuries, more deaths, and more chaos. Luckily, from this point, things were coming to an end soon, but not soon enough. By the time the concert ended, many were looking for their friends and loved ones. Many still got injured during this time, but some were found dead, and many were found injured.
Within 24 hours, Scott dropped an apology video, but instead of making fans pleased and satisfied, it infuriated them. Many of his fans said it wasn’t sincere and that he didn’t care at all about the tragedy that broke out. In under 24 hours, he went from a viral sensational superstar to one of the most hated celebrities. But after the long-awaited album, Scott made a huge comeback in 2023. “This year, Travis Scott bounced back into the spotlight with the summer’s biggest album and a mega-tour to match,” said a reporter for GQ.com.
In 2023, Scott dropped the album “Utopia,” and it blew up. The song “My Eyes” mentions how he would do anything for his fans and wishes he could change what happened at his concert. This pleased some of his fans, but others are still holding a huge grudge to this day. It is very sad and tragic what happened that night, and may the victims rest in peace. So next time you go to a concert, just be mindful of the people around you and how most of the artists’ concerts go.
