Pahrump Valley High School’s Girls’ Varsity Volleyball games are some of the most venerated, interactive, and student-supported games for the fall season. Volleyball is a fun, and challenging sport. You have to be sharp in your reflexes, and reaction time. You also need speed, power, and of course most importantly of all, teamwork.
With the Boulder City Eagles and the Meadows Mustangs potentially being the Trojans biggest competitors, it challenges varsity to be even better! Working on blocks, seeing the court better, and using teamwork to beat their opponents! The Trojans are never scared to face a challenge.
Belen Ramirez, senior and setter for varsity, played all four years of high school. Wanting to be like her cousin, she tried the sport and fell in love. She really loves the intensity, skill and technique of volleyball. However, it can be challenging at times. Particularly when the team is losing, Belen is always trying to raise the spirits and moods of her teammates to keep them positive. “Being able to play your hardest, being your best and being proud of how you did”.
Bryn Mazlo, is the second senior on the team, as well as being Libero. Playing since 6th grade, Bryn decided to join due to the influence of her older sister’s best friend. It turned out to be the perfect fit for her! Bryn loves the feeling of winning, but who wouldn’t? On the down side, keeping the team’s energy up is always difficult. Being a senior helps her to increase her leadership skills, and luckily the team is understanding of that.
Sports is a good way to keep yourself motivated for school, and making sure you don’t fall behind. Marayah Waller, a junior and middle blocker on the team, tried out in 8th grade for that exact reason. “Volleyball helped me to stay motivated in school, and to get my schedule back on track”. Marayah must’ve become attached because she has played volleyball ever since.
Veronica Montanez, is the Varsity Volleyball coach here at PVHS. The 2024 season is her third year coaching, and hopefully to be many more. Coach V. was a volleyball player for PVHS in high school, and came back to coach with her sister, along with sharing her knowledge and experience of the sport. “The team aspect, I love getting to know the girls, and seeing the girls forming a bond and chemistry to play great”. The chemistry between the girls is a big aspect of volleyball. It helps the girls to be able to communicate with one another, and to perform their very best within the season. Something she wants to work on for the team is challenging the setters. Coach V. also wants to go to more clinics, and overly better the whole team.
Varsity had a great season for the year, especially with the support of our student section. All the student section gets really into the game, cheering them on to victory. Keep an eye out for future games as the season restarts yearly, and come support your girls varsity volleyball team!
