The Pahrump Valley High School Junior Varsity Football Team had a great season with a ton of ups and downs. Although JV went 1-6 on the season, JV never stopped showing heart. Joey Colucci, head coach of JV football, said “Our team was a really hard-working team; I think we had a lot to improve on but nothing stopped us from enjoying the season and working hard.”
JV never gave up in any game throughout the season and they ended up winning against Mater Academy in a blowout. A blowout is when one team beats another by a huge amount of points, which was amazing for the JV team.
JV had a ton to improve on this season and one of their biggest flaws was their focus on the field. JV had a hard time focusing during practice and in games, which ended up affecting them in the long run. Sophomore Luca Blundo, a JV player, says “I think we need to change our focus during the game, and at practice because our team lacks that a lot. We need to just pay more attention”. Although JV had a hard-working season with some rough patches, they need improvement but they had a great, enjoyable season.
JV was a great team filled with amazing players and each player had their responsibilities. Even with their flaws, JV had great dedication and never gave up. Freshman Sione Petelo, a JV player, says “I think our strong suit was the defensive side of the ball. We really worked together to get big stops”. With all the drills and team plays they did, it really improved their teamwork and helped them get to where they are now. With great coaching from Colucci, the team was able to build a stable defense and offense. JV is looking to improve their season next year and hopefully have a new winning record for the JV team.
JV football starts at the beginning of June and ends at the end of October. All practices and home games are held at PVHS where the JV team fights for their home field. Even with JV’s rough season they never gave up at any given moment no matter what the score was. Football season is definitely a commitment; you’re taking a ton of time away from home and family and it’s a massive amount of work. JV showed dedication through every second of the season and that’s not something very many people can do.
Even with JV’s 1-6 record, they always kept their heads up and kept fighting to win. They were motivated to do great things for each other no matter what the outcome of the game was. JV hopes to improve next season and get a winning record with great efforts from all players. There is no doubt they can have a great winning season with more practice and better focus. If you ever see one of the players or one of the coaches out in the hallway don’t be afraid to ask about how their season went.
