There have been many great moments and memories with the Pahrump Valley High School Dance Team and they have had a great start to the 2024-2025 season. From dancers to coaches, everyone has done their part to have a successful season. Through trial and error they have overcome challenges and created a very strong group of dancers. Every member has become stronger and closer this year and is hoping to continue this trend for years to come.
One of the great memories the coach, Mrs. Joann Cunningham, mentioned, had been simply creating a new scene on the map for dancing at this school. Coach Cunningham displayed this saying, “My favorite memory is changing the culture of dance in this school”. The cultural change in dance has a great impact and is one of the most important memories one can have.
Coach Cunningham enjoys a lot of things about dance but the biggest thing to her is that she is able to watch her girls perform on the sideline the whole game prior to other years. Her gratefulness was shown as, “I enjoy mostly watching the girls being able to perform the entire game”. There is great positivity from coaches towards the team and is being displayed through Coach Cunningham’s comments.
Coach Cunningham plans on making sure this culture of dance stays to standard as she plans on coaching dance until her time at PVHS is finished. Until then, she will work hard to keep the dance team growing stronger and better than ever.
In addition, the dancers seem to have similar thoughts to their coach in the case of a positive dance team this year. They have talked about how strong the bond between each member grew substantially throughout the year. Multiple members also spoke about how their dance routines have always been a way to get their crowd at their best.
Natalie Minor, a junior and dancer at PVHS, had expressed her favorite routine to perform is her favorite since it is always a crowd pleaser: “One of my favorite routines to perform is the Trojan Fight Song since the crowd is always at their best when a touchdown happens”. This demonstrates a passionate feeling of bringing the morals of the crowd up.
The support of the dance team was also mentioned by freshman Adelia Pollard to be strong.: “My favorite thing is to dance with people I like and support me”. The strong support system in the team and the boost of the crowd is expressed in major ways.
The dance team has proven to be a great success so far this year and is hoping to be even better in the future as well as for years to come. They have had many amazing performances that have definitely intrigued and amazed many people during events. With improvements from start to finish, many would say they have exceeded expectations by a mile this year. So if you haven’t seen them, or haven’t paid much attention before, make sure you go and support the dance team!
