When going into a sport of your choosing you should condition before anything. Conditioning is one of the most important things you should do before going into a sport because conditioning helps prepare you depending on your sport. Wrestling is a pricier sport that people say is demanding in terms of conditioning. The goal of wrestling is to get your opponent on their back and to get points by doing certain moves. Some of the moves a wrestler can make to get points are takedowns, reversals, escapes, and pins.
Conditioning is important to all sports, according to a Senior Wrestler named Bishop Carter “At the start of the year when you’re out of shape it’s really hard. It kind of just something you really got to mentally prepare for.” Bishop Carter is a Senior at Pahrump Valley High School he has a record of “25-26 wins 17-18 losses” and he wrestles at 132 lbs he is also a team captain. Carter recalls that the very first conditioning felt “terrible because I wasn’t in wrestling shape. ” Two other wrestlers at PVHS named Bryce Whitney and Ethan Rouse Jr, Whitney is a sophomore who wrestles at 138 lbs. Whitney stated that it was “pretty bad” and rated it 9/10, the most challenging part of wrestling for Whitney was “the conditioning.” Rouse is a junior who wrestles at 106 lbs, Ross said that during conditioning “ depends on the day it’s a really hard practice there’s times where I just want to walk away.”
Mike Colucci is the coach of the wrestling team and the coach of the football team also, he teaches athletic weight training. One of the things that coach Kalucci put the wrestlers through is “lots of running” because “ at the beginning of the season it’s just getting them in good cardio shape so that they don’t have to worry about. Being tired at the time while we’re teaching our technique.” when in a typical practice the wrestling team “meets in the wrestling room at 2:45 they give a little speech and then we’ll go running” quoted by Carter, he also stated that “Are running now is maintaining conditioning we don’t run nearly as hard as the first 2 months of the season but back then it was pretty bad.” When the wrestlers are running they have to “go as hard as you can” stated Carder. Some of the other things that Carter said are “Back then we were doing 20 minutes of bleachers and 20 minutes of running.”
The things conditioning can do for you can be things in normal life. “If you can make it through our wrestling program everything else in life will be easy” commented coach Kalucci. Coach Colucci stated that “everybody that’s completed it has benefited from it,” Carter also commented “If you want to get big and a good physique wrestling will do it for you. You do too much to not get built.”
Do you think that wrestling is a conditioning-demanding sport, go and check out the conditioning when it starts back up this next year.
