Ethan Hubbell, Issac Maciel and William Briggs: two of them have similar opinions and one has a very different view of school.
Ethan Hubbell is a sophomore at Pahrump Valley High School who has never liked school; he has always had issues with students being very distracting and it makes it hard for him to focus on his work and get it done. Hubbell switched to online school because he thought going to school with friends was distracting.
Hubbell states, “Homeschool just feels like it was made for me. Like my mom, she helps me when I am stuck, and she also knows people who can help me understand instead of just having to guess.” Jeana Hubbell states, “I feel like he is happier at home, and my friends and I helping him with his work than going to school and dealing with the stress and barely getting his work done on time.”
Issac Maciel, a sophomore at PVHS, likes attending school. However, he says that school is challenging for him, as teachers try to help him understand, but they just make it harder in the end. “When I ask for help in math, I feel like they just make it harder for me than making me understand,” Maciel states.
Maciel’s parents find his education very important, and when he is doing badly, they get on him and make him feel even more stress. Maciel states, “I wish there was a way to take the stress off of school and to help me get better grades so my parents aren’t adding to the stress.”

Maciel likes his classes and shares these classes with many of his friends, and he feels like this is one of the reasons he can’t finish work because he is too busy laughing and having fun with his friends. He says, “My friends are funny and all, but I feel like if I keep messing around, I will have to repeat classes next year, so I have to actually do work and try in this last quarter.”
William Briggs is also a sophomore at PVHS however, he likes going to school, he says that it gives him a chance to get into a free or less costly trade school. Briggs says, “If I maintain good grades like having a 3.0 GPA, the trade school is more willing to take me because I have good grades in their programs and stay on top of my work, so I need to start now and get ahead by my junior and senior years at PVHS.”
Briggs also has a business out here in Pahrump he does people’s yards, such as clearing weeds and trash, and he also does placing outdoor tile. He is a good worker because he ensures that he can complete the job in a day or two. “Having this business can really help me in the long run because I know what I will want to get into for a career when I am older,” says Briggs.

Hubbell and Maciel both have similar opinions on the school that PVHS, but Briggs shows that going to PVHS is not such a bad thing as long as you put in the work and actually try. Talk to your counselor and make sure school isn’t so stressful.
