Numerous people listen to music. In fact, music is everywhere. Whether in the elevator, on the streets, online, or during a walk, music is heard and seen. It’s part of our everyday culture and life and has been forever. It also changes us as a whole. One might be listening to a solemn music genre and feel a certain change – a change in mood, which begs to differ: does music actually change the way we feel?
…well, not entirely, of course, but it does work its magic. As said, music does change our mood, which can be seen everywhere by many, similar to how one might be listening to a song.
Say an adolescent is enjoying their day, and they put in their AirPods. They put on a playlist, and the song that comes on is very solemn and sad. Depending on how deep the song is, one might feel sad as well. This could be just a way of empathy, a way of relatability, and/or a way of getting too deep and too into the song as a whole, according to the adolescent and their life.

When listening to rock music, a teen may also feel similar to someone getting their anger out, and when listening to hip-hop, a teen may feel happy.
Sometimes we can relate to the lyrics playing or the song’s hymns, like how the song might be about a lack of affection and how we never got a good amount of affection in our lives ourselves. We might also just be feeling empathetic toward the song, feeling bad for the song’s pain, and as a result, getting affected emotionally, possibly feeling the song’s pain itself.
One might even use music to escape reality and its pains or slow time. It depends on the person, their personality, and their livelihood.
Similar to a walk, calm music relaxes and causes a slight release in dopamine, while other types of music might be a stressor depending on the song and instrumentation. It doesn’t matter how one might listen or what one might listen to. Either way, music does affect one’s mood, but does it matter, really? Music is an elegant, inspiring sound to thousands, millions even. Silence may be great, but so is music.
Music brings us together as a whole. It’s been part of our culture for a really long time, playing a major role. It brings fantastic beauty, delicacy, and art. Music is a big part of our daily lives. It’s practically been here forever. It’s enjoyable to many and delightful. Music warms the heart and wounds it.

It doesn’t really matter that it affects our moods daily, as it is a choice of listening. One might listen to country, another might listen to pop, and one might listen to techno. Music genres are just different ways of expressing and listening to the art of music.
We all listen to different types of music. We all have different opinions. Music is a great way of expression and changes our moods, but that’s not important. We should be grateful we have music and not silence.
