Malcolm McCormick, also known as Mac Miller was born January 19 1992 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and would be 32 years old today. Mac Miller was a rapper, songwriter and record producer. He took an interest in hip-hop while he was still in high school in 2007. Mac Miller went to Winchester Thurston school and graduated from Taylor Allderdice high school and he wouldn’t attend college though he didn’t need to with the fast career path that had taken off for him.
In 2007 at the age of 15 Mac Miller released his first album “But My Mackin Ain’t Easy”. In 2010 he signed his first record label with Rostrum Record and released his first breakthrough K.I.D.S, the same year he also released Best Day Ever with the same record label. From the years of 2007 to 2018 he released 18 albums and after his death 9 more albums were released with most of them being re-releases. His most popular album was “Swimming” which ended up being the last album he would release before his death. Leading to his death, he seemed to struggle with addiction. Mac Miller stated the personal struggles he had faced for years, both in his songs and during interviews, his history of battling demons which were related to drug abuse.

Out of all the songs Miller released his most popular song is Self Care from his album Swimming in 2018 which was the last album released while he was still alive. The song has lyrics such as “Can’t trust no one, can’t even trust yourself, yeah”, which states Miller’s rough ride of feelings that he had not only towards himself but towards others too. There’s also been lyrics that related to a past lover “And I love you, I don’t love nobody else, yeah”, which were related to his ex Ariana Grande. With all the songs he released many people have a variety of favorite songs with one high schooler saying “His songs are never all the same you’ll always find a song of his to like, plus its Mac how could you not love him”. On September 7, 2018, Mac Miller died of an accidental overdose at the young age of 26 years old. Mac Miller had made a huge difference to the people who listen to his music. His lyrics and unique songs, which were never all the same, made an impact on many lives. His death has been met with a wave of sadness, with many people such as celebrities and fans all agreeing that an amazing talent has been lost to the sadness of one of the hardest things you can do through. Mac Miller died from mixed drug toxicity that involved cocaine, fentanyl and alcohol, it was reported by County medical examiner-corner’s office in Los Angeles. Mac Miller was said to be struggling with drugs prior to his death, a lot of his song lyrics have contained any mentions of drug usage.

Mac Miller’s death affected many lives, not just the people in his life, but his fans. There has been so much art made about him by fans as well as songs written for/about him such as Heart to Heart by Mac DeMarco, Thank you next, The way, I can see you and Talk to me all by Ariana Grande. This death was a heart breaker for thousands of people as music artists always have. After his death he had many songs released in his memory that he couldn’t release himself. His death will have always shaken the world, but we always have his amazing music to turn to.
