On May 7, 2026, at Pahrump Valley High School, PVHS held a Staff vs Varsity Boys Basketball Game; the game was extremely close with the staff ending with a score of 50 points, then the students ending with a solid score of just 3 points above the teachers (53).
Even though the students won, many people had assumed that the teachers had paid off the referee at the game.
Mr. Curtis, the person who had planned most of the game, had claimed, “I did not pay any refs, but made changes to the rules,” so some refs might not have been paid off, but some rules were changed so the staff would have a better chance of maybe winning the game that night, which they almost did with only a few points off.
Curtis had also mentioned that every time the students got a foul, the staff ended up getting one additional point added to their score, along with them getting unlimited timeouts to attempt to help with the game as well.

One of the students who played in the game, Kamden Moore, a varsity basketball player, had mentioned that the team was extremely excited about the fact that they ended up “actually winning the game,” since they were behind by a lot in the first game, then caught up being able to win. Moore had stated that he feels that the game was definitely rigged at certain points of the game and had stated, “The game was super rigged, but we still came out on top.” He had said that him along with his team were extremely excited that they won since it was such a close game.
But by the end of the game, everyone ended up cheering, and Mr. Curtis did not end up actually paying off the referee so they could win. A handful of the students ended up getting a medal at the end of the game: Cayden Cowley, getting MVP (most valuable player); Caden Briscoe, getting Defensive Player of the Game; Trae Plein with Offensive Player of the Game; Lucas Gavenda with the Spirit Award; Kamden Moore getting the Kindness Reward; and, last but not least, Keir Shepperd with the Coach Award. The game was so exciting that hopefully next year, we’ll see you at future games.
