On May 7, 2026, at Pahrump Valley High School, we had our very own Staff vs Varsity Boys Basketball game held in our main gym. If you didn’t end up going, you missed an excellent game because of who exactly won and what happened at the game.
Right off the bat, the staff’s team that consisted of Trenton Curtis, Mike Abbiss, Coach Toby Henry, Coach Elliot Owens, Cameron Cannon, Brayden Preston, Coach Julius, Benjamin Veloz, and Erik Odegard, had managed to beat the students in the first period 17-6.
The staff ended up getting two points due to fouls, since the boys’ team kept ‘shoving’ the teachers during period one. Then, during the second quarter, the boys’ team ended up getting another foul, but those three fouls didn’t stop them from trying their best. During the third quarter, the students were ahead of the staff at 32 points, with the staff at 30 points. The students ended up staying in front of the staff for period four. At last, their final scores ended with the boys’ team beating the teachers, winning by just three points, leaving them 53-50. Overall, the staff ended up staying very close behind them, but in the last few seconds of the game, they ended up missing the basket, leaving the students to win.
A good handful of people attended the basketball game, with the crowd mostly consisting of a few parents of the boys’ team and families of the staff members. Many people came to support friends of both teams as well.

Plenty of people in the crowd weren’t too happy about the teachers starting to win the first few periods, but they did have their supporters out there in the crowd. Curtis had mentioned before the game, “They will have an advantage… But I have changed the rules… You will have to show up to see the rule changes,” so maybe the three fouls the students received weren’t actual fouls. Maybe Curtis had a bit of help with having the staff get a head start at the beginning of the game, or maybe the teachers were just that good at the game until the final few moments.
The game was an amazing one, with the staff and boys team neck to neck until the very end. Maybe something like this will happen next year, and hopefully we’ll see even more people attending to see whether or not our staff can finally beat our boys’ varsity team.
