Spring training, also known as 7 on 7’s, for football has officially begun! This is the time of the year where returning football players, as well as upcoming freshmen and anyone else who wants to join the program, can come train and practice with the football team. These sessions will take place during scheduled dates from 5:30-7:30 on the football field and inside the weight room.

During spring training, one thing people who attend will try to figure out is what position they want to play. Some people prefer the offensive side because it means they’re the driving force for scoring, while others choose to specialize the defensive side to feel the satisfaction of stopping the opponents. For some, they want to be able to play both sides of the ball since they feel like they’ve worked hard to do so. Cade Wulfenstein, Pahrump Valley High School junior, has big motives this season when it comes to being a two-way player. “I’m planning on playing both linebacker and running back this year since I’ve felt that I’ve been working hard these past years to master both these positions,” Wulfenstein expressed. “This decision also comes from transitioning from these positions from center, due to losing so much weight during wrestling seasons.” Many upcoming seniors, including Wulfenstein, plan to be a two-way player with a similar mindset of working hard enough to earn those spots.

For some of the younger players out there, their main goal is to improve as much as they can during each and every session. Freshman Lucas Silva has planned out his ways to make constant improvement during these training sessions. “I know what to do to get as ready as possible for this season. Getting off the ball and trying to lead the new freshman has been at the top of my list,” Silva stated. Leadership and improvement are the main goals for many upperclassmen coming to training.
Whether you are entering your senior or freshmen year, spring training is a great way to get prepared for this upcoming football season. If you or a friend are interested in participating for the 2026-2027 football season, come out to spring training!
