A multitude of students at Pahrump Valley High School find video games to be marvelous and entertaining. Video games have been around for such a shockingly short time, and yet, it’s had such a huge impact on society as a whole. Many students around the world enjoy video games for various reasons, and because of that, video games have flourished into many different genres and play styles, ensuring that anyone can have a wonderful time. As of now, video games have evolved; they now have better graphics, voice acting, and offer much more than previous installments. Moreover, it begs the question of which video games do PVHS students love the most?
To answer this question, PVHS freshman, De’lon Tighe, explains his experience with video games, his personal favorites, and his opinion on which games to avoid. Tighe formed his opinion of video games by experimenting with the many genres that gaming has to offer. Tighe says, “One of the greatest creations ever made has to be story games, like Just Cause 3, Hogwarts Legacy and Red Dead Redemption. That’s because there are just so many stories to tell.” Moreover, Tighe has a very strong opinion on what video game to avoid at all costs. Tighe says, “If you love yourself, DO NOT play Siege.” His opinion is very strong on this topic because games such as Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and more are infamous for making people angry. Nevertheless, Tighe says he loves video games and is eager for new releases such as GTA 6 and UFC 6 for their “immersion.”

Furthermore, Dennis Martinez, another PVHS freshman, shares his feelings towards video games. Martinez, similar to Tighe, loves story games. Martinez said, “Story games are pretty cool, playing with my friends makes them better.” Martinez enjoys story games with a strong story and intriguing plot. Martinez says, “The Resident games, Life is Strange, and Silent Hill are really cool.” As far as online gaming goes, Martinez, unlike Tighe, enjoys Rainbow Six Siege and claims that it’s “fun with friends.” Martinez’s take on video games is simple: a good game has a good story.

Nonetheless, it seems that story games are extremely popular at PVHS. Story games are video games that have a narrative to push the game forward until completion. This type of video game creates new worlds for the player to explore, and (usually) a set of characters to follow throughout the story. Story games started without much depth or character development; however, overtime, games like Red Dead Redemption, God of War, and The Last of Us, during the Playstation 3 era, influenced many other games to follow suit and create more captivating, fun, and story-driven installments. PVHS students love these video games because of the stories they tell and the impact that these stories may have on their lives. However, there are a couple of online games that PVHS students enjoy as well. Online games are highly regarded as fun and entertaining video games because of the social interactions that story games lack. Numerous video games like Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege, Call of Duty, and Apex Legends require teamwork and communication in order to complete a common objective, creating friendships, Fun memories, and new experiences.
In conclusion, the video games that PVHS appreciates the most are story games. Because of their captivating stories and their excellent world-building, story games have proven to be PVHS’s favorite genre of video games. Story games have attracted the attention of PVHS, however, everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what they like and dislike. With that in mind, find out what you like, see which video games you prefer, or maybe some that you don’t. Either way, experience new things and most importantly, have fun.
