Coach Uyeno and his team are ready to take on the 21-22 baseball season here at Pahrump Valley High School. Despite covid putting a pause to their 20-21 season, they are back and better than ever to compete this year for the state championship title. Dallton Norland, a senior at PVHS was asked some questions about the upcoming baseball season. Norland stated “ I feel like covid has pushed us a lot more, especially the seniors. We missed out on our last season, we want to win regionals and a state championship title.” All of the athletes are fighting to win a state championship due to their last season being taken away from them.

The baseball boys have much more to worry about than just losing a season last year. They have some pretty tough matchups this season. One of their toughest matchups will be against Boulder City, they are our rivals when it comes to baseball. Kyle McDaniel who is a junior at PVHS and was also asked some questions about baseball. McDaniel states “Boulder city is definitely our toughest matchup, they beat us in regionals and it’s always a back and forth game when it comes to them and they also have pretty good players.” Most of the boys agreed that Boulder City is their toughest matchup.

Baseball is life when it comes to these players. Scott Hirschi, another junior at PVHS was asked how baseball has influenced him. He stated “Baseball has influenced me in many ways, I always give 100% on the field. It’s taught me to always give 100% no matter the situation.” McDaniel also stated that “My life revolves around baseball, I’m always giving full effort when I’m on the field.” Although these boys are self-motivated when it comes to baseball, their coaches do a good job motivating them as well. Norland said “If you do something good, they are there to let you know and push you to keep doing good. If you’re in a tough spot or have a bad inning, they’ll pick you back up and motivate us pretty well.” When it comes to staying motivated, most of the players turn to their family members to continue staying driven, not just their coaches.

Both McDaniel and Hirschi plan to continue their baseball careers after high school. They both want to play college baseball and see where it takes them. McDaniel has been playing baseball since he was just 7 years old, and ever since then he’s fallen in love with the game and has been inspired to continue playing. Hirschi has been playing since he was little as well. Norland isn’t quite sure what he wants to do after high school when it comes to baseball.

Playing high school sports is always an opportunity to make new memories. Norland stated “ My favorite memory when it comes to being on the baseball team has to be the River Valley trip, it was a lot of fun. We all got to hang out and bond while still playing baseball.” Hirschi and McDaniel both agreed that their best memory on the team was the away trips with their teammates.
