The small secluded town is about 45 miles northwest of Las Vegas. We sit between Las Vegas and Death Valley, California. Area 51 is also near Pahrump, making us only 73 miles away from one of the most known places in Nevada.

The population of Pahrump is growing at a high rate. There are estimated to be 47,288 residents of Pahrump. Mountain falls is one of the biggest housing communities this town has to offer. By 2030, the community plans to have 3,200 homes built. Currently, there are 1,000 homes with residents in them, and still, 400 more are to be built. There are a few other housing developments in Pahrump. Artesia, Burson Ranch, Desert Green, and Pleasant Valley.

Pahrump has a lot of residents from Las Vegas and California. Housing costs here are extremely low, gas is cheaper, and groceries are more affordable as well. A lot of people reside here due to those reasons. Many retired people live here because they like how quiet and small it is. Other people complain that the town needs more to offer.

There are quite a few families that move here due to the fact that they would rather raise their kids in a small town versus a city like Vegas. This causes a lot of talk in the town because there isn’t much to do here for kids or families. At one point, there was a skating rink located in town. Sadly, it got shut down and has been demolished since 2019. There is bowling, at the Nugget Restaurant and Casino, but with that being one of the few things to do, kid’s get burnt out on it fast. The town offers multiple parks, with basketball courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, and playgrounds. Although being outside in nature is an amazing thing to do, it makes it hard during the winter months when the weather is cold outside. There is an arcade, located on Highway 372, but over time that can become boring too. The town pool is also open, but only during summertime. 

Pahrump has many sports clubs that kids can get involved in. Since we live in a place with a lot of dirt, it makes riding quads and dirt bikes fun. High schoolers love doing this and riding with their friends after school and on the weekends. There are many trails that you can find and enjoy throughout the town. 

There are clubs throughout high school and middle school for kids. 

You can also find Spring Mountain race track in Pahrump, a motor resort and country club that offers driving lessons for every kind of driver, track rentals, and a private lake for guests. The track is 6 miles long and consists of many different models of sports cars to drive. 

Only individuals who hold a membership can experience the beauty of the resort. Their clubhouse contains a gym, indoor racquetball, pool, fire pits, and massages. They also have a gun range where you can practice shooting guns. You can also enjoy the water on the private lake, they have paddle boards, cabanas, water jet packs, and jet blades. 

One of the biggest downsides to Pahrump along with nothing to do is the limited choices of food. There are quite a few fast food restaurants here, places like McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Burger King. There is also a Starbucks and Java Junkies. Java Junkies is a privately owned coffee shop here. There are multiple small businesses in Pahrump. It’s hard for a lot of small businesses to keep their shops open because there are a lot of low-income people here that can’t afford those types of things. Therefore, the shops don’t get much business and are forced to close. Over the years, Pahrump has had a lot of places that open up and don’t do well. I asked Aspen McCormack what it’s like living in Pahrump and she said “ I wish that we could at least have a movie theater or a nice sit-down restaurant. There is no good food here or anything to do.” I asked a few people what they would like to see come to Pahrump. A lot of the answers I got were more food and things to do for families and kids. Others stated they wish to see more shopping choices. There is only Walmart, Smiths, and Albertsons. The only option for clothes is Walmart and Goodwill, anything else you’ll have to travel to Vegas for. There is also a sporting store out here, which has quite a few options when it comes to sporting gear, equipment, and clothing. Hopefully, in the near future, Pahrump will provide more for all ages.
