As the Pahrump Valley High School’s Trojan Boys Wrestling team progresses to state, the school, along with county police, sends them off with high hopes and love. Headed to the rural Northern Nevada city of Winnemucca, the boys await their matches in possibly winning state and another victory for Pahrump.
Early morning on February 12, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., a handful of first-period classes, such as Journalism, Current Events, and Women in Literature, gathered outside the football field at the student parking lot to join staff and parents alike in this heartwarming farewell to their peers. Some staff members held encouraging signs for the team while students cheered on their friends from outside of the bus.

The energy among the diverse crowd of supporters was palpable, as PVHS sophomore Jane Anderson described, “It was wholesome, and there were a lot of parents there. There was lots of love to send off to the team.”
A senior of the wrestling team, Benjamin DeSantiago, expressed such a touching statement regarding the team, “Going to state is always a great experience and accomplishment in any sport. Wrestling, though, it’s a whole different world. Going to state in wrestling is the reward for all the early morning runs and workouts and late nights of cutting weight. To be going with all the boys who have been suffered and been put through the same pain is truly a blessing, and there’s honestly no other feeling like this. I’m glad my senior year was with this group of young men, and who couldn’t ask for a better outcome.”
Our journalism team, students, and staff across our school wish the boys a safe trip and to “Go. Fight. Win!”
