Many protests have erupted in Iran, but they started on December 28, 2025. What Aljazeera stated was that these protests were caused by the decline of the Iranian currency, the Rial, which is worth nothing in many major currencies like the U.S. dollar. The downfall of the Rial has since caused every protest in Iran, which was met by a harsh crackdown by the Iranian government.

This crackdown alone has caused many deaths across the country. According to Iran International, over 36,500 people were killed during the crackdown by Iran’s security forces; these numbers were only during January 8-9, making this the deadliest two-day protest massacre in history. Some of these deaths were extrajudicial killings, meaning that the killings weren’t justified by government officials. Iran International also says that the people who were victims of extrajudicial killing still had medical tubes and patient-monitoring equipment attached to them, signifying that people were dragged out of hospitals as well.
These are only some of the cruel actions that the Iranian government has done to its people. People are suffering in Iran, and many countries see these harsh actions used against the Iranian people. Many of these countries are trying to ensure the safety of innocent lives in Iran, but these people are dying at the expense of the protests. Iran is trying their best to hide their terrible actions from these countries and even their own people by preventing the Iranian people from accessing the internet. Having restricted access to the internet in Iran means the government can choose what to show and broadcast at all times, leaving countless lives clueless about what unjust actions are happening. There isn’t much anyone can do for the people in Iran, give prayers to them in this difficult time.
