Youth OHV Experience was a small event held in Pahrump, Nevada, for young riders to come out and show off their skills. It also gave young riders a chance to feel involved and practice or try new skills. This was beneficial because it helped them gain confidence in riding, giving them the courage to show off and present their skills, allowing room for improvement, growth and development.
The number of people who came to the event made this event very successful. There were about 50 youth riders, or more, attending the event, all riding around. Annette Taylor said, “There were tons of people at this event enjoying the environment and having fun on the tracks!” The crowd helped the younger riders with encouragement and confidence, which helped them have a better performance doing the tricks they were trying to achieve. Everyone helped keep the riders safe, along with the ambulance, firefighters, and police officers who were all there. One young rider said,” I love all the support that here makes me feel safe and able to have the courage to hit my tricks”. The event got a lot of involvement from the community, making the event enjoyable with everybody there bringing the energy up.
There were some tricks that weren’t made, but that didn’t stop the riders. The riders always got back up and tried again or even moved on to the next trick they wanted to achieve. Taylor said, “I’m so glad I came. It’s so fun seeing everyone try and achieve what they’re going for.” Everybody helped in such a great way by giving the riders confidence to get back out there and try again, or even giving the rider an example on how to do the trick they are trying to achieve. It can be discouraging not hit a trick, but that doesn’t mean to give up. They learned how to recover from a bad fall or accident and try their trick again without saying that they “can’t” and instead keeping their head up and saying, “I can, and I will try again.” Although they may fail a couple of times, maybe even a lot, they get back up and practice to try again.
The event had high non-stop action with all the riders going around the tracks and hitting all the jumps, along with everyone hitting their tricks while riding or hitting a trick in the air. Desiree Phillips stated, “I loved this event; the energy was so high, and there was so much encouragement.”This event focused on skill development and learning along the way, finding new ways to improve and become a better rider, and helping improve the riders. Everybody had fun watching and participating in this event. There was always something happening; there was never a dull moment for the crowd or volunteers, especially the riders. The event relied on volunteers and parents for tips or even to show how to do the skill the young rider is trying to achieve. The Sin City Munchies were there for people to grab some food or a quick snack, and United Rentals was there also, they were both there for support overall, as well as being a local sponsor.
Overall, the event was a huge success, leading to young riders and their development in picking up new skills and becoming better riders. The kids seemed to have had a great time riding around and receiving tips while hitting their tricks. They all had confidence in doing their tricks, showing off, and having fun while still staying safe.
