Here at Pahrump Valley High School, freshmen were asked how it feels almost becoming sophomores. They were also asked to give advice for new rookies coming next year to see how they’ve improved over the year and see their wisdom. It’s important to listen and see how people change in just a year. This will show the person’s personality and how they adapt.
Xavier Tampous, a freshman at PVHS who loves sports such as golf, football, and soccer, was born in Nevada and lived most of his life in Las Vegas. Tampous has spent most of his schooling in private schools, until now. “There are definitely more sociable people here than at my other schools, he states. He has a passion for music and likes playing the saxophone and other instruments
His best moments this year were mostly thanks to sports and the new friends he has made, “A couple of things I wish I knew before becoming a freshman: there’s more people, way harder subjects, and also wished I studied more.” Tampous always helps people in need and is known among members in the freshman classes for his kindness. Even though Tampous had made multiple new friends, it was also his biggest challenge this year: “My biggest challenge was definitely being more social and meeting new people, but you should always engage and try not to be afraid.”
Tampous has shown much improvement since the start of the year with new wisdom for upcoming freshmen. “Since the start of the year, I think I improved a lot with people, and I’m more open minded about tons of new stuff, like people’s feelings and new subjects,” he stated. When he was asked if he would give any advice to upcoming freshmen that might struggle like you, he responded, “Study, work hard, focus, and don’t get caught up with people that will drag you down, wasting your potential.”
Another freshman, Abel Ramirez, who is known for his funny personality and humor likes making new friends and helping people when he can. He was born in Arizona, and lived there around four years, then came to Las Vegas and has been here, in Pahrump, for a couple of months. Ramirez plays in beginner band, learning the trumpet and also plays in percussion. “The biggest thing I’ve learned this year was playing the trumpet. It was very fun, and I made new friends,” he shared. Ramirez’s best moment was making new friends and learning how to open more with people.
And finally, Ramirez was asked what advice he would give to upcoming freshmen. He stated,”Don’t think about what others think about you. It distracts you and can really mess with you in the future.” Ramirez showed major improvement with socializing and has learned new tips and tricks across the year.
So, these freshmen went from struggling and just getting by to adapting and can help others themselves. They also grow with wisdom and have been seen giving advice to others that struggled. It is great to see how people change in just a year for the better. If you see any freshman that are in need of help, you should always lend a hand because everyone was once a freshman themselves
