For a freshman, it is nerve-racking going into high school with kids who have much more experience and confidence. But for these freshmen, there is no such thing as being nervous. At Pahrump Valley High School, the kids in our track program are talented and brave.
The new season for PVHS track has some extreme talent. Many freshmen are extremely excited for track and are very confident about this year. Last year, our freshmen didn’t really have much competitiveness, and many of them weren’t as mature as they are now. Now that they have a better coaching staff and much more competition, this season is shaping up to be astonishing. Having to run and compete against students from other high schools who have more experience and training can leave our up-and-coming freshmen in fear; however, the new members to our track team have shown a growth in confidence and are hyped up for this season.

Kristoffer Trejo is one of the many tremendous freshmen in our track program. According to Trejo, he claims, “There’s not really any competition. I mean, I dominate in every event except the long jump.” This shows the extreme confidence that some of our freshmen have coming into this new year. But Trejo also has many awards from other sports, showing that he has been dominating in other sports as well, and this year will prove if he can bring his dominance over to track.

Another amazing freshman is Evan Strain. Strain is a freak athlete, and now he wants to take his athleticism to track. Strain stated, “I was most excited for actually competing and also being able to do track with Kristoffer Trejo.” A lot of our freshmen have all run with each other, so there is definitely chemistry between them. Many freshmen also really enjoy the new staffing for the track program.
One freshman, Kelen Sheppard, has mentioned that he has broken some of his previous records since the new management. Sheppard stated, “One thing I was very excited about was hitting new PR’s in different events.” This excitement is what we need the staff to bring to our young and new members to track.

Many of the freshmen are excited to play against much harder competition, and many of them are very confident. Strain also commented, “Track is also just a way to get conditioning in for other sports you may be doing.” So, even if you don’t want your sports life around the track, it’s a great way to get some conditioning for the sport you do want to play. Many friends have been made within the new track season so far as well.
Looking over the program so far, the season is shaped up to be amazing. A wide selection of the freshmen have really improved since last year, going from little competition to major competition. I recommend going to a track meet to support your Trojans and watch their hard work pay off.
