The staff of Pahrump Valley High School has decided to continue the school tradition of letting seniors paint their very own parking spots. Parking spots were $20 per student; students also had to pick up a parking spot contract, which allows them to have their own parking spot for the rest of the school year. Once students’ contracts were approved by Farnsworth, they were allowed to purchase paint supplies. In terms of designs, they need to get approved before they get painted; no offensive, rude, negative, and inappropriate language. Other than that, students are able to come up with cute designs from movies, shows, or even pop singers.

This was Farnsworth’s first year as Senior Class Advisor in the Student Council. One of the responsibilities and opportunities of the Senior Class was the parking spots. Farnsworth was really excited for the senior parking spots, because this was something she also did in high school. Farnsworth says “I enjoyed driving into the parking lot, and seeing all the painted parking spots and how easy it was to find my parking spot.” She was interested in continuing this school tradition for PVHS.
Students were also limited using water based exterior latex paint due to certain paints ruining the asphalt. This allows students to showcase their school spirit and pride by participating. This also shares their creativity with those around them when seniors went to paint their spots. Not only did they show up by themselves, they showed up with family and friends.

Gloria Walker, a Senior at PVHS who is also the Student Body President, has painted her very own parking spot with the help of her friends. This was something Walker really enjoyed doing. Walker did this during the summer time, so she says, “It was really hot and we kept running out of paint, and also people were stealing our paint.” Although it was really hot, she enjoyed every moment of it. As seniors are painting their parking spots, this shows a way to express themselves with their creativity. Like Walker, for example, she painted Pete the Cat because when she was little, she would read the books, and that was nostalgic for her.
This is something students enjoy doing throughout the school year; it’s a fun experience for not only the seniors but also the people they are surrounded by. This shows school spirit for those who participated in painting their own parking spot. If you attend PVHS, you should take a look at the senior parking spots.
