Our students and community express their individuality differently by presenting themselves through beauty and fashion. Fashion is mainly focused on the big areas of Paris, France. Paris is the residence of many big companies such as Chanel, Dior, and Louis Vuitton. The industrial revolution mainly solidified the standards of fashion and beauty in some cases, but originally came into existence for the purpose of protection. Later, establishing to express the wealth, status, and power of an individual.
People have evolved beyond the decades of fashion and were given the rights of free will to decide how each individual expresses themselves. Citizens of all ages are able to present themselves as their own person by dressing how they feel based on their emotions, personality, and how they identify. According to The Tartan, they claim, “Fashion is also an often overlooked way to maintain or improve mental health.” Dressing how you please could also be the reason people are seen wearing nice clothes; it improves self-esteem and confidence.

Amelie Ramos and Madelyn Stwewart, both freshmen at Pahrump Valley High School, show their respects to different fancies of glamour by truly valuing all aspects of expression. “I think expressing yourself is important because it’s good to have a sense of self of what you personally like and dislike, being your own person,” states Ramos. She believes experimenting with accessories like hats, jewelry, belts, and scarves is the best choice to discover your “yes” and “no” to your fashion.
“Expressing yourself through how you dress is very important because it’s a reflection of your mind, but I believe anyone can dress however they please as long as they are comfortable,” Stewart claims. Chitkara University mentions the damage of media posts: “Unrealistic depictions in media can contribute to feeling inadequate and dissatisfied with one’s appearance,” which ties to the information about it affecting your mental health, whether it’s improving or worsening.
Ramos specifies that beauty doesn’t only come from manufacturers but also from genetic values as well. “Physical features like hair and eyes are real beauty because I think those are always interesting qualities of a person that are inherited from their background,” Ramos says. She additionally explains the most influential decade being the 90s fashion because of its bold yet simplistic hip-hop style and clothes layering.

Stewart clarifies that hair is a part of being able to express yourself. Her reasoning being how there are thousands of ways to present your hair in public or private, yet each person could have their own personal reason for which specific style was chosen. “Although I don’t have a favorite style in fashion, I personally enjoy solid colors over anything eye-straining,” Stewart says. She thinks the 1800s elegant style was influential to our fashion’s growth by introducing the Rational Dress, which guided what used to be unhealthy and unrealistic back in those times to better and more breathable clothes that you can wear.
Fashion and beauty organizations produce an estimated 80-150 billion articles of attire each year to provide for the desires of their consumers. Our population craves their own sense of self by buying things that express how they want to be seen: to stand out, blend in as normal, or simply if they want to experiment. Whenever in self-doubt of who you are, you must get over your worries and go through the process of trial and error with the fun of trying something new!
