This season for our PVHS Football Team has been quite a successful journey but also something to learn from for the Trojans. Our players and coaches have dedicated their time, effort, and strategy to play the sport they love- and at the same time, giving our school spirit. As this season comes to an end there’s been countless memories made, relationships that have been built and one great season to remember.
The spirit that lives in PVHS has always impacted our school in the best ways even including the athletes, students, staff, and community that surround PVHS. But most of all it affects our football team. Students at PVHS show their school spirit not only by showing up to games, but also adjusting to the dress code that matches the theme. Students also wear face paint and glitter to add a special effect to the dress code and take joy in supportive chants that boost our football players confidence. The students at PVHS care for our players and love to support their football team in any way they can so when they do, they put it together like no one else.
Having such strong school spirit come from PVHS students really takes a toll on the players in the most positive way. When players know they have people who believe in them and are counting on them, it pushes them to be a better athlete and reminds them that they have fans that love them to keep them going.
Austin Alvarez, a senior that attends PVHS and has a vital role on the team as a wide receiver, is someone who has been very affected by the school spirit, “In my opinion all the support I have received from start to end has shaped me to not only a good athlete but also a good man and productive member to society, I truly don’t know where I would be without it.” Stated by Alvarez.
Alvarez has played football all four years of his high school journey and has loved every second of it. But this season especially is one of his favorites. Alvarez states, “I would describe my final season as one to go down in the books. I’ve made a lot of memories playing with my boys and there’s been a lot of exciting and eventful moments from the start of the summer all the way to the end.” Alvarez has been a leader for the Trojans football team and an inspiring teammate that’s carried his team through the end.
Within the football season Alvarez has had someone who he can count on and look up to, and that’s Coach Colucci. Between the wins and losses Colucci has been an idol for Alvarez as he states, “Coach Colucci has been my biggest mentor and he helps me see the reality of everything and the bigger picture which helps keep my head on straight!”
Colucci is not only a football coach at PVHS, but he also teaches a weight class that challenges students to become more physically active and stronger as they evolve in his class. Colucci has always had a strong impact on his football team in the best ways and loves what he does. He’s quite satisfied with how the season has come along and is proud of his players. Colucci states, “ We finished with a winning season, six and three- guaranteed a winning season… It’s awesome to get to host a playoff season again, so far it’s been a very good season and I have a great group of boys.”
With hard work bonds are created that makes all of it worth it in the end, come to watch at PVHS as they kickoff next season!
