The Pahrump Valley High School Student Council is made up of many students and staff, and is a huge pillar of the school when it comes to school events such as pep rallies, dances, and games. These devoted people spend many hours after school or even on weekends to prepare for any upcoming events the school has. The final product of these events may have people believe that they execute the plans flawlessly, but that is not the case, and some behind-the-scenes details can show that.
When it comes to how different council members are placed in certain positions, there is a group voting. Some positions also require certain qualifications and applications for the position. These are determined through the judgment of the council members.
With obstacles like sports, clubs, and outside of school activities, there are a few challenges when it comes to finishing up any decorations or theme designs for any upcoming events. This is why certain areas need an application so they can make sure they’re good to go when things gets rocky.
Another big way the student council gets through these obstacles is through the power of connecting with other members. Sophomore Hunter Wydick was surprised at how much he had become closer to the other student council members. “I had become connected with people I didn’t know I was ever going to be,” Wydick explained. The ability to bond while being in StuCo is very important when overcoming any challenges for Wydick and others. It creates a positive atmosphere so everyone can work with little to no hostility.

Now, sports and after-school activities are not the only roadblocks to student council. A very common, yet fun issue, is purely how messy student council can truly be. Ms. Thompson had eagerly spoken about how it’s always a true mess whenever they started painting. “There is paint everywhere,” she exclaimed. “Imagine kindergarteners just painting, that is how messy it is.” The absolute mess that is created almost every time they’re making something is just another goofy part of being part of student council.
When it comes to experience, Ms. Thompson participated in StuCo when she was a student at Pahrump Valley High School herself, but as a teacher, this is her very first year advising. The same goes for Wydick and many others. However, this does not mean there isn’t a great student body that works hard despite their experience being in the council. With seniors to lead the way, each person has a fine time figuring out how to complete anything needed to be finished.

Overall, the student council at PVHS plays a big pillar for helping create and plan school events across the campus. Without the work of these many students, it would be a hard time trying to get anything done around the school, or for any kids to enjoy events. So if you see a student council member around, try to be supportive and thank them for their hard work!
