Young athletes in Pahrump have a new sport to play during their after season. Pahrump Valley Volleyball Club is Pahrump’s newest club sport for teen athletes. Club founder, Coach Amber Lugo, a Pahrump Valley High School Science teacher, founded the club and plans to help athletes. “The goal for this club is for the experience, and exposure, and the time to improve their skill set,” stated Coach Lugo. She also added, “The club will be going to AA nationals, which could help them experience that full club experience, which would help them compete at a high level and improve greatly.”

The club competes over the weekend in high schools and event centers in Las Vegas, Nevada. The club plays against other club teams in the Southern Nevada area. This could help improve our athletes’ with a better mindset on the court, with also having competitive feeling during games, and having good sportsmanship against other teams. These could all help these athletes and prepare for when they start to play at the high school level.
Emri Wulfenstein, club athlete and 8th grader at Rosemary Clarke Middle School, shared, “Personally, as a young athlete, I think it will give better chances and possibly playing at a higher level in high school because you get to work with the varsity coach, so she’ll know your skills.” She also shared, “I feel it’s given me a better way of understanding volleyball. My serves, hits, and digs have definitely improved from being on PVVC.” Many athletes who were also interviewed said that their volleyball skills have improved since the start of the inaugural season in August.

Like Miani Freitas, a sophomore on PVVC shared, “I 100% see improvement in my volleyball skills. There are a lot of things I couldn’t do and from that jump to now I see a big improvement.” and Heavenly Ware, a senior on PVVC shared “PVVC helps me think more strategy wise when it comes down to the game of Volleyball.” She also shared “It’s the hands-on experience that we get with Coach Lugo. We also get to go to Vegas to play with girls that have been playing in volleyball clubs for years,”
Many of these young club athletes on PVVC shared that they have seen big improvement with their skills since the end of the inaugural season in late October. With PVVC helping and improving our athletes’ skills, they may have a chance of getting a full-ride scholarship or even being able to go to D-1 colleges for volleyball if they stick with it through the end.

If you are interested in PVVC or want more information about it, please email Coach Lugo at [email protected] or visit their next practice. They practice Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Pahrump Valley High School Main Gym from 7-9 PM
