On March 13th, 2026 Team USA played Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic and beat them in the quarter finals to move on to the semifinals. The game took place at Daikin park in Houston, Texas.
Both teams played well, but Canada just couldn’t keep up. The U.S. took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then in the third inning Alex Bregman hit an RBI single followed by a throwing error by Canadian third baseman, Abraham Toro, extending the U.S. lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the sixth inning, one run came in from Canada, but later in the inning Bo Naylor hit a two run home run for Canada bringing the score to 5-3. Then the U.S. and Canada battled it out for three innings, but no runs from both teams. The U.S. pitcher, Mason Miller, struck out Otto Lopez and ended the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, with a final score of 5-3.

Logan Webb was the U.S. starting pitcher and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings. The reliever pitchers were Brad Keller, Gabe Speier, David Bednar, Garrett Whitlock, and closer Mason Miller. The U.S. had a total of 9 strikeouts against Canada. Michael Soroka, Canada’s starting pitcher, pitched 2.2 innings, allowing runs before being relieved by Micah Ashman. Other pitchers for Canada included Phillippe Aumont and Adam Macko. With Canada having a total of 8 strike outs.

Both teams performed well. Canada put up a good fight, but it wasn’t enough to take home a win, resulting in their elimination. The U.S. is advancing to the semifinals where they’ll face Venezuela on March 17th. Make sure to support team USA, where if they pull off a victory, they will advance to the World Baseball Classic championship game.
