The PVHS Trojans are currently in the middle of their varsity 2026 baseball season, and they are on track to have a pretty good season. With seven wins, five losses, and many more games to be played, things are looking promising. We can only hope that with the help of their head coach Drew Middleton, they can get their win rate up before their season ends on April 29, 2026.
Now, of course, the varsity baseball team is good, but with a 7-5 win rate, there are definitely things the team can improve on in order to have a much better season. When catcher, Damon Egan, was asked what way he thought the team could improve he said, “A way we could improve is during practice. The coach should let people work on what they need to work on.” Egan was really vocal about wanting specific training for guys who needed to work on a specific skill and hopes this change will happen soon in practice.
That may sound negative, but that is one thing the varsity team could improve on. But, obviously, there are a couple of things they’re doing right in order to have a positive win rate. According to Coach Middleton, “one thing the team does great in games is that they adapt really well.” More specifically, coach Middleton emphasized the fact that the team was really good at changing plays mid-game if one wasn’t working.

Another thing worth noting is that coach Middleton tries not to make practices too intense all the time.
The team’s mentality during the game will usually determine how tough the practice following a loss will be. The reason why coach Middleton does it this way is because he says he still wants to make sure the game stays fun for the players.
Another strength of the team is their ability to work together. Team chemistry plays a big role in baseball, and the Trojans seem to understand that. Kieth Lawrance, a sophomore at PVHS and a member of the baseball team said, “It’s not so much that the chemistry is good. It’s just that everything outside of baseball we leave outside of baseball so we are able to just focus on baseball when we are playing baseball.”

Another thing the players on the team definitely have is passion. The players on the team really do love the game, and that helps with a lot of factors like motivation after loss. The team never stays sad after a loss for too long; instead they learn from it.
One thing is for sure, and that is that the PVHS varsity baseball team has a lot of things going for it right now even though they still have so much room to improve. If all goes well, the varsity baseball team has a really good chance to turn this okay season into a great season. So, I advise you to come on down to a game and see what you think before the season ends.
