Cloud Imperium Games vs Crytek

If you haven’t heard, there is a game called Star Citizen, a sci-fi space trading and combat video game. The game is still in its alpha stages which means it’s still being made, but for about 20 dollars, you can buy a spaceship off their website, Roberts Space Industries. This is the cheapest ship in game, and the most expensive ship is $2,500 REAL dollars.  If you buy a spaceship you can play the alpha.

The type of enemies in the game can be AI or another person playing the game. Something cool that was added to the game is if you kill another person playing you automatically become an outlaw. The next time you log in, you spawn in a different place from where you’re supposed to spawn, Port Ollisar, a space station where the game begins. As an outlaw you spawn at a place called Grim Hex, a asteroid mining facility in the asteroid field of the moon Yella.

The most expensive ship in game is also the biggest ship. They classify this ship under Capital Ship. There are many other ships in the game too like a ship they are going to release soon called the 600i which is a luxury ship but right now it is in a re-work.

You can do missions and so you don’t get bored of doing the same thing, and they are randomly generated, Which means by randomly generated is there are antennas that will be attacked by NPCs, non playable characters, every once and awhile. And you have to go fix the antenna

Also if you do a two or three ECN, Electronic Communication Network, Assistance Needed Missions, in asteroid fields near Delamar, and you will be contacted by a man named Miles Eckhart and he will ask you to do random missions for him. one of them is about getting a box from a from a crashed ship on a different planet.

They added many new weapons with the recent update, Alpha 3.0. One of the weapons was a long a awaited rocket launcher. Unlike the ships they do not cost real money.  They have in game currency called UEC, United Earth Credits.

They also implemented in the game where you can buy resources. That you can go and sell to facilities around the planets, like hydrogen, gas for vehicles, water, food, and many other items. they also recently added in 3.0 that you have to buy gas for your vehicles in the last update, but in an earlier version gas was unlimited. You can also buy upgrades for you ship from a store called dumper depot. Such as shields for your ship or new warp drives that will warp you faster.

CIG, Cloud Imperium Games, also added where you can land on moons: Daymar, Cellin, and Yella. And a dwarf planet named Delamar which will temporarily be in the Stanton System.

CIG recently got sued by a company called Crytek for copyright infringement and breach of contract. The reason they are suing is because, CIG back in 2016 switched the game engine they were using to Amazon’s Lumberyard. Chris Roberts, the CEO of CIG, said it was better for the company. In a blog post following their transition, Roberts explained how lumberyard was essentially more promising way and that it was a better base for his modified version of CryEngine, StarEngine.

In Crytek’s complaint they claim that in their contract with CIG, that CryEngine would be the specific engine they use and that Star Citizen would have to put Crytek branding in their game.

Crytek has also helped and made other games like the first Far Cry, the Crysis Series, Warface, and Homefront: The revolution. They are also working on two games right now Hunt: Showdown and Arena of Fate.

One thing is unsatisfactory about them getting sued is that they are still making the game. Their website has a list of things that they are going to add to the game. It is highest funded game ever, even approved by Guinness World Records. Roberts, during GamesCom 2014, said that they passed 50 million dollars. Every time someone buys a ship, it goes into the crowdfunding
